I am so glad I finally decided to give historical romances a shot because I am really enjoying them. I've only read 2 so far but still it makes me want to read more.

The book starts with Mairin in a nunnery praying that her enemy doesn't find her but of course they do. Duncan Cameron is trying to force her to marry him so he can get her dowry but she refuses and gets beat by him for doing so. She escapes with a little boy who was held captive as well and then they find their way back to the boys home where Ewan McCabe joins the picture.

I love Mairin. She was a strong female lead who stood up for what she believed in no matter the consequences and she was fiercely loyal to those she cared about sometimes to the detriment of herself.

Ewan?? Well it took me a while to warm toward him. At first he comes off very demanding and while he's not as bad as Duncan Cameron when he's first introduced my immediate thought was how can Mairin want to marry him but not Duncan because he's not the greatest either. Like I said though he is no where near as bad as Duncan his demanding just rubbed me the wrong way.

I loved how Mairin kept him on his toes and how while he was still very demanding it started to come off more as he actually cared for her and it wasn't all about the money. I definitely want to continue on with this series.
