This was the August pick for the Lost in Romance Book Club that I cohost with my friend Michelle. Each month we pick a book from different sub genres but they are all romance. I'm pretty sure this was my first book by this author and while this one wasn't a favorite I wouldn't be opposed to read other books by her.
I should also mention that I didn't read the first book in this series and while I don't typically like doing that in this case it was fine. If I'm not mistaken each book is about each sister so while there will be similar characters I don't think you necessarily need to know what happened in book 1 to read this one.
This is a second chance romance and there is a lot of miscommunication/non communication which drives me crazy. I can't stand when a book relies on characters not communicating so much. I understand there needs to be some form of drama but I just can't stand it. I also hated Nora's father with every fiber of my being and how Nora just unquestioningly took him for his word. I know this is a historical romance and I'm sure this was probably how things were in those days but I hated reading it.
I loved the romance between Nora and Titus. Their love for each other was just jumping off the pages and it spans decades. Nora is always self sacrificing for those she loves which is admirable but also very stupid and I'm sure her father used that to his advantage. Titus has been in love with Nora pretty much his whole life and while he took lovers he never really got over her. I loved Titus as the hero and how he loved Nora unconditionally.
Their relationship is what made this book tolerable for me and why I kept reading. I wish we would have gotten more of them together.
