A great read.

A highly entertaining, fast paced quest story. Iain M Banks manages to juggle some impressive ideas with a pumping story that has stood the test of time.

I just couldn't get into this.

Rather dull space opera (never thought I'd say that), some interesting backstory bits that are, by and large, glossed over with a B-movie action plot.

I tried to read this book on 3 previous occasions and this was the first time I made it past chapter 1.

Epic space adventure. Fairly dry in my opinion and longer than necessary, but does offer some glimpses into the universe of the Culture which may become more exciting as I read further. tbc

If you like hard scifi then this is not the book for you. It is a lengthy space opera. Lot's of stuff happens... none of it very interesting.

Great story, satisfying if saddening end.

I enjoyed just about everything about Consider Phlebas, except for the utter lack of an ending.
