I have always enjoyed Caren Taite's legal lesfics and this is another good one. It continues in the Legal Affairs series where 3 friends leave their law firms and start their own as partners. This book centers on Abby as she first goes on a vacation and hits it off with someone she met on the plane that was going to the same resort as her. The person she meets, Roxanne, is a wedding blogger. The two become even more intertwined after their vacation as Abby takes on a case where a wedding dress store shuts down leaving many angry brides without their dresses. So as not to get into spoilers, I will leave the description there.
The passion between Roxanne and Abby is strong from the start. The only negative that I have from the whole book is the lack of communication between the two characters, especially from Roxanne. Since she covers weddings on a regular basis, it would seem to me that she would see the importance of communication in a relationship, something that she does not do a good job of herself.
It is a very enjoyable story and a relaxing read.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
Carsen Taite takes us to honeymoon paradise where two women who are not looking for lust find it in the most unexpected place. Honeymoon resorts are usually filled with couples, so when Abby and Roxanne meet it seems like an amazing chance. A no-strings one-night stand that they both crave and need. Then it becomes an affair for just while they are there. Abby despises weddings and marriage and anything to do with it. On the other hand, Roxanne loves marriage and everything to do with weddings.
Yet, something connects these two women and it is more than just body chemistry. Taite lets these women get to know each other without technology, jobs, or today's pressures getting in the way. Something which is almost impossible to do. I loved it.
Of course we have to go back to the real world. As the cover shows though, when we get back from a vacation like that do we really want to go back to work? I think Jeanine Henning displays where Abby is when she gets back from Mexico perfectly.
Taite brings a different kind of heat to the relationship with legal fireworks for Abby and Roxanne. There is also a great moment of Never Been Kissed (Dir. R. Gosnell, 1999). I also had visions of The Bachelor (Dir. G. Sinyor, 1999). I don't think I had a favorite character as I loved Abby and Roxanne together.
Taite gives us heat, romance, running brides, protests, and fake news. Damn sounds just like the real world. Maybe Abby and Roxanne are out there too, I hope so because I love them.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
