This is one of those books where you wonder, “at the beginning of the book,” - why is there a second part to the story? But as you read along, it feels more than the author wanting to write a second book because the first one was popular - unlike Ready Player Two. As the story unfolded, it brought me back to the world of the 12 districts, the capital, and the story of the Hunger Games. As the book ended, I was speechless because so much happened in the last few chapters. So much! I was dumbfounded, and I just wanted to start the third book. The reason I gave this book 4 stars is because of the feeling and the slow pace in the beginning. But as the pace picked up, there was confusion, excitement, laughter, anxiety, and so many more emotions that I felt.
Given that I didn't know if I liked the ending of the first book, I think this book was necessary to make me know more about the story.
Much like the first book, it was good. It was interesting and I finished it in one sitting. I enjoyed returning to the world and seeing the next Quarter Quell but in the end, it is kind of forgettable (don't hate me for that) Overall, the characters were good, and it was a good second book where it didn't fall victim to an info dump. I think this was the best book in the trilogy and was ready for the change that was to come for their society.
The book was very good! It was very intense and I was so sorry for what they had to go through.
My sister told me about this book being her favorite of the series, and I understand it.
Watching Katniss slowly realize that the rebellion was happening because do her action in the 74th Hunger Games and that she actually might was the rebellion to happen was nice. Katniss' inner dialogue as to why she didn't want it was reasonable. All she's ever cared for was her sister and now her mother. She has to make a choice, either risk it all and continue with the rebellion, or stop and go along with whatever Snow says.
The romance isn't as prominent mainly because Katniss doesn't exactly know what her feelings for Gale are. Does she actually love him romantically? Or does she love him in a more big brother sense? I think that Katniss doesn't exactly know what these feelings are due to the fact that she's only 17 and hasn't felt this way about anyone. Her choosing Gale was a result of Peeta not talking to her. Gale was there for her when she was recovering from the aftermath of the games. In her mind, her feelings for Gale must be romantic. But they aren't.
Finnick is the loml.
Haymitch needs to chose his words better.
Peeta deserved the world.
And Cinna was done extremely dirty.
Things start slow and pick up around the second half. The writing in action sequences can be quite confusing to read at least for me.
The love triangle between Gale, Peeta and katniss is very mediocre and not my cup of tea.
The twist was predictable but very fun.
i'm gonna confess : i didn't remember when I read it younger... And I only saw the first movie ... So I was pretty happy when I read this one ! Kinda surprising , I was afraid it was gonna be the same thing than the first one because Collins manages to make a interesting plot ! We discover a lot of new characters , and for once they are mainly likeable ! I'm wondering if there will be a lot of betrayal next book ? Of course , Peeta is still the best but I don't really like Katniss , triangle love As never my favorite trope but she manages to make it worst ... I have my suspicions the last one will be really different (maybe no Hunger Games ) but I know I'm gonna read it eagerly.
This is my favorite part of the trilogy. There are new characters, but also more adrenaline. Katniss is more mature, friendship between the Book characters develope and They unites with new power. From this book I like Johanna Mason and Finnick Odair. And of course Katniss. These games are different from the previous ones. They are tasked with eliminating all winners for fear of their attack on government tyranny. Many of them die, but the rest escape death to unite in the next volume to kill President Snow. Katniss decided to do this to end her suffering and that of other people. She is also traumatized by the death of her friend Rue and the shooting of a boy from a wealthy district - Marvel, who she remembers in the second volume. Katniss is traumatized by all the games she has participated in. At the end of the book, Katniss's arrow, electrocuted by lightning, destroys the dome of the hunger games arena. What I also like is the modern Capitol. I like futuristic places with advanced technology. I recommend the book and, of course, the movie. All parts are worth attention. I can write about Hunger Games books all day and night, but I'm afraid there won't be enough space, so I limit myself. I reached for the book after watching the movie. I didn't look at the reviews. For me, just reading the description is enough to know whether I want to read it or not. I think it's worth reading. Best Wishes for Everyone :)
Often the middle book in a trilogy feels like a chore one has to complete in order to get to the good part. Not in this case!
The author has an immense talent to create what I like to call “cosy dread”. That feeling of anticipation of something awful just about to happen. The sense of unease that the main character goes through and the uncertainty of what's going on.
I also liked the character work, though that somewhat surprised me. Katniss' personality is not the most likeable, yet quite realistic and consistent, which I very much appreciate. And when you contrast it to that of Peeta you have this balanced and very easy to like combination.
In addition, the supporting characters - from Haymitch and Finnick to the beauty squad and Effie, were an example of turning a stereotype into a masterpiece. Placing good people on the wrong side and seeking to understand one's opponent are two things that bring a level of nuance notably absent from a lot of the modern literature.
And the way that twists were revealed was done in such a smooth way, with our main character battling it all in her head. I loved it.
The pacing was perfect - sparing enough time for quit moments and for explosions of action.
I loved every moment of reading this book and can't wait to pick up the last one in the trilogy.
Just as good as the first, just as fun and entertaining with further world building
Me encanto, maravilla, objetivamente el mejor, simplemente el final es A R T E, peeta always the best pero katniss tmb es muy ✨✨. Peeeero tmb tengo que hablar de F I N I C K, osea HOLA?
me encanto como personaje al igual que joana pero finnick un poco mas, en fin A R T E.
THE ENDING????×,&#&×¥×¥2÷(
ok i loved the beginning, middle of the book was boring coz it was too similar to the first book and put me in a slump BUT THEN THE LAST CHAPTER. so excited for the last book coz i NEED to know whats in the 13th district
The first half was more promising after the first book. A fascinating depiction of the dystopian world. And second half was all ‘I wanna save Peeta and die'. All except Katniss knew what was coming from a mile away.
Audiobook narration: 5/5 The best narration ever!
Only reading this because of the Tumblr posts I keep seeing about how great this series is and how Peeta and Gale represent peace and violence for Katniss, and it's less a love triangle, more of her choosing one way of life over another.
I hear you, but then why the fuck was 50% of this book focussed on the love triangle?!
But still, I enjoyed this more than book one (probably because 2nd movie was my favourite). The games part was the most fascinating. I liked how the alliance formed by keeping the two idiots unaware of it all. You could clearly see the others specifically protecting Peeta and Katniss at every step of the way.
— audiobook notes (spoilers galore) —
• Wait wait! Gale was just saying that Hazel can't drag three kids through the woods in winter while they're on the run, but then totally changes tone when Katniss mentions the uprising. He wants an uprising in District 12 too. Like dude? Moron? What's wrong with that brain of yours? You think your family would survive the uprising but not the woods?!
• Shut up, Katniss. Please just shut up. Fuck Gale. Fuck you.
• Wow the marriage part was more prominent in the book than the movie. Or I selectively forgot about it.
• Peeta is a saint. None of you deserve him.
• WTF Katniss. Why were you crying about Gale so much when you're HUGGING PEETA TO SLEEP?! WTF is your damage, girl???
• Why are the games only in the last 20% of the book?!
• Last 20% was more enjoyable than the beginning 50% with Gale this, Gale that.
• Finnick!! Too bad you'll die in the next one. You're the second character I can tolerate without cringing.
The book was decent enough, but unfortunately the audiobook narrator didn't do a very well job of trying to sound immersive or make the book sound interesting.. She was flat out dull. Which is a shame...
Ahh, this book keeps getting better every time a person reads it.
I love the character developments and the atmosphere of this book. It's so goooooood.
The story is action packed and full of political stuff.
Peut être mon tome préféré entre les 2 premiers.
J'adore connaître les autres vainqueurs des différents hunger games, avec ces sentiments d'union et de révolte qui les animent.
