Starting dedicated Stephen King month (November 2023, for whatever reason) with this book. I saw the movie years and years ago and remembered the big plot points, but had no idea the book moved in and out of different perspectives, news clippings, etc. I found it pretty riveting!
Des années que je souhaitais le lire, je m'attendais à quelque chose de plus flippant, j'ai un peu été déçue. Je devais trop connaître l'histoire par les nombreuses références à ce roman dans la culture cinématographique.

I enjoyed it a good bit. I like the atmosphere around the story. I love the way it was told through investigations, articles, books, etc. I had to make sure I finished it before bed.As for how it compares to the OG movie (I don't remember jack from the 2nd one or the remake which sucks because from how the book ended and in general how the book was told... it could have been a whole series!) is they had very key moments. Somethings were changed, like the ending and everything that lead to it. And they missed out on like a whole part of the book which just... boggles my mind.As for the reason it is a 3.56 and not 4 or higher is because of a couple things. Like how they described Carrie to be on the bigger side but yet on the covers and in the movie is skinny. I have choice words for it. I also rated it lower in terms of horror and fantasy. Carrie is a good thriller/paranormal/supernatural book. Unless you scar so so sssooo easily. Either way I would def recommend this book, it is one of SK's better reads.
4.5 Carrie was definitely written differently than what I had expect based on watching the movie a years ago. But it was a good difference, I liked the way it was formatted and even though not all the characters were likeable reading from the different POVs was the easy and interesting. It's a type of book that makes you think I love stories filled with morally ambiguous characters, or villain la you feels bad for. So great read, however Mr.King sometimes over describes things that have no point, and seems to have a weird like for descriptions of women's boob sizes, which was weird and definitely took me out of it.
A nice quick read and a classic for a reason, Carrie tells the legendary story of Carietta White, the daughter of a crazed fundamentalist Christian woman who is fiercely bullied at her high school and the repercussions this life has.
Only lost points because the random mid-sentence thought brackets were very off-putting, occasionally would switch scenes with absolutely no indication towards doing so, and the numerous references to racist caricatures (while yes, a result of the time period) were unnecessary and gross. I'm aware these kinds of things come up in King's early books but they very much do affect my ratings.
Otherwise, enjoyed the reading experience immensely.
This is probably my favourite work of Stephen King's so far. He was this unique way of writing that makes me feel like I am being transported into the story.
Carrie is a teenager who has been treated so horribly, by not just her mother but by her peers. You can't help but feel sorry for her, all she wanted was to fit in and feel normal. The story follows Carrie's discovery of her telekinetic powers and what happens when she is pushed to her limit.
This is a book I definitely recommend to people who are starting out as readers or someone who is struggling with a book slump.
Un clásico tanto del autor como del género.
Clasica en este universo que el autor nos ofrece, y que su excelencia jamas pasara.
Sin dudas Stephen King estaba preparado para el terror iniciando con esta novela.
I didn't think I'd get much of this book given how well known the story and, more importantly, the ending is; however, I found it gripping and emotional and flew through it.
I guess it's called a classic for a reason!
I will begrudgingly bump this to three stars on reread; but I still highly disagree with the structure of this novel. Destroys all suspense. But on reread I can appreciate the writing style and characterization a bit more.
El libro más desordenado que he leído en mi vida. 2 estrellas por cierto respeto al autor.
3.5 Stars
I honestly didn't like this book much, it was ok. I had a hard time getting thru it even though it's not that long of a book.
This was my first Stephen King book. I asked some folks who'd reads his stuff for recommendations, but the ones they gave me were all 500+ pages (like The Stand), and I'm not a good enough reader for that. I get frustrated if I go so many pages and haven't finished yet, and I get distracted and forget to read at all sometimes. So I picked out this one because it's shorter, and it was on display at the store a few months ago.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about it. I think I should like it more than I do - it has a lot of themes I enjoy. I loved the writing style - I really like that, when you know X thing is going to happen later, intermixing bits of what's going on afterward (the book exerpts of The Incident, etc) while you wait to get to the thing.
There were a number of little things that bothered me; The gym teacher says a really strange line at one point, insinuating that women go "feral" when they see another woman on her period?? The only thing I can think of was that, the girls' actions were brought on by Carrie's powers as an unconscious side effect, but this statement by the gym teacher is so bizaare. This is also the first author I've read who actually does the thing where they over-describe womens' breasts, so I guess I'm lucky in that regard - but it's extra strange in that they're teens.
The big problem for me, though, was that Carrie herself was probably too relatable for me. So her whole story is a bummer.
Anyway, I get that this is an older work, so I'm not going to judge certain things too harshly. But it's awkward - it's a story I feel like I should enjoy more, but overall, it kind of just made me sad.
I really did enjoy this but Stephan King has writing that isn't my favorite. I don't like how there were no chapters because the book felt like one, long run-on sentence but the characters were so interesting.
This was the beginning of my challenge to read/watch all the Stephen King novels and movies in chronological order(and to document the process of my blog at TannerWillbanks.com). While I found the frequent mistakes made by the copy editor to be galling(this was a '70s rush paperback edition), I was quite impressed to see that Stephen King was able to craft a compelling and unique story even with his first published novel. The use of epistolary to tell the tale is reminiscent of Stoker's “Dracula” and made me smile, knowing that King's respect for the masters of horror fiction runs deep.
All in all a very nice freshman effort that makes me really excited for the rest of my Grand Stephen King Experiment.
If I wanted to like Stephen King I should have fought my compulsion, to read even non-series books, in the order they were written. I seem to expect to gain some insight into the author's growth as a writer, or something. Stupid me. If this book was written by someone else, if he hadn't written better books later, this book would have been long forgotten. This average rating I believe (hope!) is for the author rather than the book.
Is this horror? I just found it morbid. Isn't horror supposed be something that scares me, that I don't read it with with just my side lamp on, something that gives me nightmares. This is just sad. I never felt any sympathy, only pity. It feels like this book got stuck somewhere in between adult's and children's fiction, but appeals to neither. (they did me bad i do them bad) infantile revenge, leaving the reader to be an uninterested distant observer.
Yet at some points the writing itself did shine. With TK, you'd expect things to fall on the head and kill people, but slowing down the heart, making it stop was a novelty. Carrie's subconscious is the most amusing. Wish he'd let her talk more.
Although I was aware of much of the story before I read this it did not take away from my enjoyment of the book. Highly recommended and I'm keen to continue reading more Stephen King books.

Fittonate estive e come assecondarle.
Not my favorite King, but still good. Certainly has its moments, most of which are ingrained into the popular culture via the movie (which I still haven't seen), but the structure of the story and some of the characters were a bit messy for me.
Listening to the audiobook narrated by Sissy Spacek was a nice touch.
this book is awesome, i could clearly imagine everything going on and the ending was very unexpected in a way.
My first time reading a Stephen King's book. I was anticipating it to be a good story but nevertheless it surpassed my expectations.
