Captive of the Horde King

Game of Thrones Dothraki romance/erotica fan-fiction set on another planet humans have partially, and somewhat unsuccessfully, tried to colonize where the wannabe Dothrakis have tails.

Somewhat questionable consent in that if you get someone tipsy and the touchy-touchy feels good it's not really rape.

To be honest, I went into this one with doubts. The captured bride concept is hit or miss with me. I ate this book up though – did not want to put it down. Were there a few trouble spots? Yeah. Overall though he is respectful of her and her agency even if he is trying to make sure she fits in with his horde. She is actually rather smart and none of her decisions feel stupid. Truly, this book was rather refreshing because of how mature her decision-making skills are. He wanted her as his queen, and by the stars she is determined to be and act like one. I think she nails it.
It is a medium burn romance and I enjoyed seeing their relationship, feelings, respect for each other grow as the book progressed. An absolute beaut! I'm so glad I picked this one up.

After my total enjoyment of Desire in His Blood, did you really expect me to not go back and read all of Zoey Draven's backlist? Of course not. So here I am, doing that. I AM NOT APOLOGIZING FOR MY ACTIONS. Captive of the Horde King was almost as good as Desire in His Blood. Almost, because the ‘plot' is very extremely thin on the ground here, not that it bothered me too much.

Mostly, Captive of the Horde King is about our main character, Luna, suddenly being thrust into an entirely different way of life. She struggles at first to give up her ‘humanity' so to speak, and to live as her new culture demands. It's a lot, at first, but eventually she bends and accepts this is her life now, and she might as well enjoy it. I wasn't a huge fan of Luna at first, because she was so RIGIDLY against everything that was thrown at her. Once she finally warmed up to what her life was, she became more likeable.

Her husband, said Horde King, was like a brick wall there, for a bit. He didn't stop to explain anything to her, and just expected her to do what she was told. Obviously, they butt heads very frequently because of this. Once he settles down and realizes why she's balking, they start to really get along with one another. I found myself mentally shouting at my kindle a few times – JUST TALK TO ONE ANOTHER, PEOPLE. They were both reasonable with one another, I hated the ‘miscommunication' bits, but whatever. It comes with the genre.

For a book titled Captive of the Horde King, the romance was bordering on sweet? It was adorable, in several places, but mostly it was hot, fast, and steamy. It's also extremely well-written. Zoey Draven knows her stuff – nothing felt clunky, clumsy, or overwritten. Basically, what I'm saying is I'M COMING FOR YOUR BACKLIST, DRAVEN.
