Entertaining retelling

Very nice and engaging story. I kept turning pages. I liked most of it, and the characters felt real. Fully recommend it.

Hervertelling van Jane Eyre ... in de ruimte ... Wel, dan moet ik dat lezen hé, lezers ;-)

Uiteraard is dit geen scène per scène hervertelling, moest de setting in de ruimte hierover nog geen hints hebben gegeven. Het boek is eerder sterk geïnspireerd op Jane Eyre met tal van knipogen naar de originele tekst en originele vertaling naar het scifi geheel.

De scifi elementen zijn niet bijster origineel, maar werden wel goed naar voor gebracht, zonder ellenlange beschrijvingen. Hierdoor blijft de wereld nogal vaag, maar voor mij althans deed dit geen afbreuk aan het verhaal.

Je mag wel niet te fel gaan nadenken over het hoe en waarom, want dan is het plezier weg.
Als je je gaat beginnen afvragen waarom een gouvernante nodig is, waarom ze met al hun technologie niet gewoon eventjes een onbemande drone naar aarde kunnen sturen, waarom ze teruggrijpen naar de mode van de jaren 1800, etc.; dan blijft niks nog overeind in dit boek en dat zou jammer zijn. Het blijft een leuke, originele oefening in het omzetten van Jane Eyre naar een futuristische setting en ik vond het goed gedaan.

Qua schrijfstijl dan nog, voel je sterk dat het om een nog jonge auteur gaat, maar de tekst was desalniettemin heel vloeiend en vlot leesbaar.

Al bij al een leuke hervertelling die de juiste Jane Eyre stemming oproept.
