This was both a typical and not your typical Dean Koontz novel. There was a bad guy, a sense of the supernatural and a couple who have seen bad things but are better people because of it. But there wasn't a story. There wasn't a point. It reminded me a bit of Brother Odd with the cutting edge science talk that, sorry to say, is boring to me. Koontz's obvious love of dogs is present as well, but seriously, when it was all over I didn't feel as if I'd just read a Dean Koontz novel.
