Captain Gavin Briggs arrives at the cottage of Lady Christina Fairhaven, bearing news that she is the granddaughter of an aged, bad-tempered Duke. Christina will not consent to meet the Duke, who abandoned her family when she was a child, leaving Gavin without his significant reward--unless the good captain should agree to help locate her wayward brother.
