I tried listening to the audiobook; however, the core of the concepts in the first few chapters were so engrained in the Christian religion that I had significant trouble connecting to the concepts. The example stories were good. When the author started explaining the concepts of why boundaries were important, the bible was used as a source of truth in nearly every paragraph. I was expecting scientific evidence with psychological research, but what I heard was consistent teachings of dated and misogynistic religious text. I set a boundary for myself that if I heard the bible quoted 5 times in 10 minutes, I would have to leave this book. And so it was, and so I did.
Didn't realize this was based in Christianity/the Bible. Totally fine if others want that, but not what I was hoping/wanting or looking for.
I read this over a decade ago, but just listened to the updated version as an audio book. It's a little bit dry to listen to when you're on a long stretch of freeway, but the information is so good. Here I thought I've had good boundaries since I first read the book only to discover there were a lot of other boundaries I never set.
The book is heavy on OWNING WHAT IS YOURS from a responsibility point of view. If you think other people are wronging you, read this. It may change your mind about what you ALLOW in your life from other people.
Wow, this is a life changing book. I will have to revisit it often, perhaps yearly. I really hope I can learn to apply a lot of these principles. This is a great book I'd recommend to my family and friends.
Life changing. This book opened my eyes to foundational concepts I wasn't conscious of. I believe every Christian should read this book–but only of they're willing to examine their lives and see them changed.
