Blackout

WOW!!! What a FANTASTIC end to the Mason Siblings' story!!!! While there were some parts of this book I didn't like (not giving away anything specifically but Paz you were right) they were pretty minor and honestly? They were so barely mentioned that I personally can ignore them and pretend they weren't in there at all XD. However, that ENDING was just BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I greatly love all these characters, and I'm so glad that it ended the way it did!!!!! While I know there Is a fourth book, I also know it doesn't continue on the story of these characters. And honestly? I'm kinda glad, as I really REALLY liked how this ended!!!! Everything was finished so nicely!!!! I HIGHLY recommend this series to anyone who likes well written horror books!!!!

It's just okay.

The author has a serious issue with repeating the same phrases, and even situations, quite a bit. When you compare all the books to each other, you realize there's a pretty specific formula to each. There's a serious lack of action, and we only later hear about some of the more interesting things, and descriptions of many parts of the story are also lacking. I'm not even going to get into the ick factor controversy, mainly because it was completely predictable.

I wanted so much more from this series unfortunately. I felt like I wanted to love the characters, and I found the world incredibly interesting. However, so much fell flat or wasn't given enough attention that I ultimately can't say I care. Also, Shaun is awful. George is a much more interesting character, especially when Shaun isn't part of the equation. Codependency isn't cute.

I LOVED this book. Series endings are hard to do. There are always so many threads to tie up and so many character archs to follow. The Newsflesh series was a particularly complicated story. To say that Mira Grant successfully tied up this series would be a severe understatement. This was the perfect ending. Not only was it the best book in the series, but it was the best imaginable ending. It gave me everything I didn't realize I wanted and so much more. This book was full of so many twists I never saw anything coming ever.
I loved this, plain and simple. What a fantastic trilogy.

This started out a little iffy and definitely had its SMH moments, but I thought it was an excellent (and final) end to the trilogy.

I absolutely adore this series and I'm sad that this will be the last I will hear of the Mason's. I'm can't put into words how impressed I was with Mira Grant and how believable she could make the end of the world look. The Mason's story was heart breaking and I'm so glad she managed to let them have a happy ending without falling into the trap of making it sappy or unrealistic. This story is just fantastic and everyone should read it!

For someone who generally does not like zombies (whether in print or on film), I sure loved these books. Very inventive story and world, compelling characters; I just NEEDED to know what was going to happen to all of them.

A good ending to the cycle, but somehow not as exciting as the first two books. There seemed to be significantly less zombie on blogger action which may have contributed to that.

I liked “Feed” a lot, even though it had some problems (such as the repetition mentioned by many other reviewers, and extremely one-dimensional villains), and even though Mira Grant is coming from a different political perspective than I am. The way it ended was completely unexpected and, in my opinion, took it to the next level, despite the flaws.

Then came book two. And I liked it, mostly. Shaun was a complete asshole, to everyone, but I understood that, for the same reason I understood Katniss Everdeen's behavior in “Mockingjay.” Trauma does things to people, and it usually isn't pretty. But the way that book ended... well, to say I'm disappointed that Grant undid the one truly gutsy thing she'd accomplished in this series is a bit of an understatement.

Still, I figured I'd give “Blackout” a try. And what I found was:

-The plot, always thin, has devolved into something my four-year-old nephew would find nonsensical.
-Not only did Grant undo George's death, she did it for no reason that could ever in a million years actually make sense.
-And, for me, the crowning moment of disgust and disappointment... INCEST! Which we are expected to accept as normal and even sweet! I suppose some people are fine with it since George and Shaun aren't biologically related, but... no. They were raised as brother and sister, they still present themselves and refer to each other as brother and sister.

I find myself now wishing I had stopped after “Feed,” that I had never known the rest of the series existed.
