Beyond the Black Door

I wanted to like it more than I did. Some great (fresh!) fantasy elements in here. I thought it was very heavy on description of things like architecture and clothes, and that time could have been better spent on...something else? I also found it to have a lengthy set-up with an abrupt conclusion that wrapped up maybe too neatly. That being said, there were parts of it I found thoroughly enjoyable. Loved the ace rep and the way the author handles gender identity and sexual orientation.
