Bewitched

Great premise.  Loved the magical school.  Felt too ya.  And I didn't like the heroine.  I gave up when she freaks out that she charged more on her cc than what is in her bank account.  Its called minimum payments and don't go do something stupid and sketchy for money. Her bargainer series is good though. Maybe give it another chance later in audiobook.

Ya más calmada, solo voy a exponer mis IMPRESIONES y describir las EMOCIONES que me generó este libro, así como un análisis personal.

Miren. El libro tenía todo lo que me gusta en una trama y definitivamente habría sido uno de mis mejores del año, porque Selene, la protagonista, me gustaba a pesar de las metidas de pata que hacía. Pero mi principal problema es el ODIO, EL DESAGRADO, EL HASTÍO Y LO ABERRANTE que me resultó el protagonista masculino, Memnón.

Todo había ido bien al principio, incluso con lo obstinado y terco que era el sujeto aferrándose a su insistencia que Selene era Roxilana (que sí, lo era, lo eraaaaa...), pero en lugar de haberle dado una perspectiva donde el carajo se dignase a conocer Y PASAR TIEMPO con Selene, LA NUEVA VIDA, estaba AFERRADO DE LOS COJONES conque ella recordase y VOLVIERA A SER ROXILANA.

La misma Selene lo dijo, sin esos dichosos recuerdos ella era una persona mejor y más auténtica de lo que era antes. ¿Eso no es malditamente válido? Es una vida nueva, donde podrían empezar de cero, donde todo es mejor y en el que podrían solo AVERIGUAR O INVESTIGAR LAS RAZONES. Porque al cabrón nunca, NUNCA DE LOS NUNCA se le pasó por la maldita cabeza investigar POR QUÉ ROXILANA HIZO LO QUE HIZO sea lo que sea, y menos en conjunto. Los dos. Como un equipo. Estaba aferrado al pasado y era tan tóxico y frustrante, una toxicidad que me estaba rozando el límite de la tolerancia.

El carajo Memnón no tenía un respeto absoluto, ni un poco de consideración o se detenía a analizar todos los puntos. Cualquier mísero intento de la autora porque sintamos simpatía por él jamás llegó, o al menos jamás pude sentirlo Y VAYA QUE LO INTENTÉ. EN VERDAD, EN SERIO INTENTÉ SENTIR SIMPATÍA POR ÉL PERO CADA MALDITA VEZ QUE LO LOGRABA EL CARAJO VENÍA Y LA CAGABA A LO GRANDE.

La gota que rebasó el vaso fue, primero, la quema de los diarios y segundo, lo ocurrido el día del baile de Samhain. Y a mí ni me interesa ver cómo se redime, esto no tiene perdón de nada. Si no logras que yo sienta aprecio o simpatía con el protagonista DESDE EL LIBRO UNO, no me vengas conque en el segundo se arrepiente y logra el perdón.

¡QUE DE PASO! Selene era una putisíma vergüenza. ¡UNA DESHONRA A LAS DE SU RAZA! Donde más odio debería sentir por Memnón por lo que le hizo, ¡la tonta pensando en sexo! ¡QUÉ ES ESO, CHICA! TEN RESPETO POR TI Y ALGO DE DECENCIA!

Laura Thalassa absolutamente falta el respeto a sus propios personajes, lo que resulta indignante para ellos. Memnón actúa como un cabrón que no se gana la simpatía de nadie, nunca nos permite a nosotros como lectores conocerlo a profundidad y lo rebaja a una mera máquina sexual para alimentar los pensamientos pecaminosos de la protagonista, cuya persona en vez de enfocarse en los problemas que Memnón le causa, los daños a su vida, los asesinatos que ocurren en la academia y de paso, el círculo de brujas que está haciendo vainas turbias en la academia, se la pasa pensando en lo sexy que es Memnón, en que quiere que la bese, que la abrace, en cómo sería tocar su cuerpo, o blablablá.

NUNCA HUBO UN MOMENTO EN QUE ELLA COMO PERSONA se pregunte cómo fue la vida de Memnón, tratar de conocer su personalidad, cómo coño se las arregla para vivir en un ambiente moderno o qué carajos hace, cuáles son los valores del personaje, su ética, su moralidad; tratar de tener un MOMENTO SERIO DE CONOCERSE COMO PERSONAS NORMALES Y NO COMO DOS INDIVIDUOS SEDIENTOS DE SEXO.

La superficialidad y obsesión al sexo que se manejan en los libros de romance actuales me resultan tan repugnantes que no puedo creer que sea tan popular E INDISPENSABLE para muchas lectoras ahora por sobre encima de conocer la personalidad y el perfil psicológico de los personajes. O al menos en lo que se refiere a este tipo de estilo de escritura o trama, porque la premisa que Laura Thalassa planteaba realmente daba para ser una de las mejores novelas de romance paranormal que habría leído si en verdad le hubiera dado tanto más profundidad como más importancia a los temas que VERDADERAMENTE DEBÍAN SER RELEVANTES: 1) los asesinatos de las brujas 2) el circulo tabú que Selene descubrió 3) el POR QUÉ de las acciones de Roxilana.

Si hubiera optado por Memnón formando un EQUIPO con la Selene actual, NO CON ROXILANA, DIOS, YA DEJEN MORIR A LA TIPA, para investigar los puntos anteriores, el libro habría sido brutal, increíble.

Y parte de increíble, me resulta increíble que Laura Thalassa tratase como tonta y debilucha a Selene. Se nos dijo en el libro que Memnón y ella eran almas gemelas y por lo tanto, existía el hecho que compartieran mismo nivel de poder, pero mientras que a Memnón le daban todo el puto poder del mundo, a Selene la reducían a una débil bruja común que la medio matan y que ni siquiera puede luchar contra Memnón, tan fácilmente derrotable y humillada. Nunca le permite una victoria a Selene, lo cual se me hizo terriblemente injusto e insoportable como lectora y más desde su punto de vista.

Lo dije y seguiré afirmando: Memnón fue el protagonista más cabrón que he leído en mucho tiempo, y Selene la protagonista más pedorra que Laura pudo haber creado. Porque ni siquiera para vengarse como es debido puede.

NOTA APARTE: alguien dígale a la editorial Faeris que su traductora Ana es una porquería porque la traducción (hecha por ellos) FUE una reverenda porquería. Mal corregida, con frases mal traducidas. Estoy 10000 % segura que fue hecha con Google traductor y apenas pasada por manos humanas. Si hubiera tenido el libro en físico TENGANLO por seguro que lo habría lanzado por la ventana para que los niños de mi barrio lo volvieran mierda.

NOTA APARTE 2: ME ACABO DE ACORDAR. Qué maldita mala costumbre de las autoras para darles las venganzas más RÍDICULAS Y PEDORRAS a sus protagonistas. A los chicos los hacen tratarlas de la mierda, los hacen ser unos demonios, unos cabrones totales, pero la venganza de ellas que se les ocurre es “pongámonos sexis, vamos al baile y coquetea con otros chicos para que se muera de celos” .__.

Quería cachetear a Selene para que desarrollara algo de sentido común y una vena más sanguinaria. Es una vergüenza y una burla de protagonista.

I love Laura Thalassa's books, and Bewitched is no different!

The premise for Bewitched is so so interesting. Selene is a witch who has the unusual side effect of losing memories each time she loses her magic. She wants to attend this specific school, but has to prove herself extra hard to get accepted. In doing so, she awakens a sorcerer named Memnon and all hell breaks loose in her life.

I really enjoyed this story. Selene and Memnon are quite the pair, going at each other over and over. I love watching Selene work to figure out what his deal is, and try to live a normal life with her condition. I also enjoyed watching Memnon navigate life in the modern world and stumble here and there - it was endearing when he didn't understand something.

Don't get me wrong, he is ruthless and cruel and not really a good person, but he has a softer side he reserves for Selene when her guard is down.

It was so so delicious watching Selene resist Memnon but also want him as the same time. She wanted to get with Kane but it felt wrong. She didn't want Memnon, but she also desperately wanted him. I loved the push and pull!

I also loved Kane, and quite honestly he can bite me and I wouldn't mind one bit! While Kane and the rest of the shifters weren't the focus of the story, it really awakened my enjoyment of shifter possessiveness and I am quite obsessed with it. You know who else is possessive? Memnon and WHEW I love it so much.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! The ending was a major cliffhangar and I am so glad I was able to start book 2 as an arc immediately after so I didn't have to agonizingly wait for it. I recommend!

This was this months pick for the Lost in Romance Book Club that I cohost with my friend Michelle. I can't remember the last time I read a book where the characters pissed me off so freaking much. When I first picked this up I was intrigued and I wanted to know how things were going to play out. I will say that it was a bit repetitive which was annoying and I went back and forth on whether or not I liked the characters. One minute I would like them and the next they were driving me crazy. Selene oh I wanted to shake her and be like wtf is wrong with you. She definitely made some questionable choices. And Memnon don't even get me started one him he's the one that pissed me off the most especially in the end. By the end of the book I hated his character. I'm not sure how or even if he is going to be able to redeem himself after all of that. Also this book ends on a cliffhanger which just added to my anger because I hate cliffhangers especially when not everything gets wrapped up in the book. You would think that I really hated this book but while it drove me crazy I couldn't help but be sucked in and I can't wait for the next book.

It took me a long time to finish this book. I was totally in love with the bargainer series by Laura, but this book lacks that extra spark that I loved in her other books.

Honestly, it was very predictable. It was pretty obvious what the ending was going to be like since it was all they spoke about.

I put the book down for a good amount of days before I kinda had to force myself to get trough it.

Honestly, I did like it. There where some parts that really made the book better, but it also felt like there was too much information we didn't need.
