Behind the Net

First I LOVE how Jamie and Pippa are already feral for each other from the get-go. She thinks he doesn't remember her, and he can't breathe when he sees her for the first time in so many years. Awesome.

Their chemistry is off the charts, I loved it. The way they learn each other in all the new ways, their friendship is so good. Their relationship doesn't feel forced, it's organic and I really love that they have a common past and know each other from years before. It gives them the foundation so many fictional couples lack when they have their instalove. Here? They knew each other then, even in passing and that gives them something in common.

I LOVE how supportive Jamie is of Pippa. He's her number 1 fan and I love how much he builds her up and believes in her, especially when she doesn't believe in herself. And I love that she starts believing him and finds her inner strength and confidence that Zach destroyed.

Speaking of Zach, for the first 80% of the book I was convinced his name was Nick. Or Nate. I don't know why, perhaps because he was so insignificant to me that I couldn't give two shits about him. I wanted to drop him off the cliff for what he did and for stealing her song THIS GUY SUCKS OH MY GOD I HOPE HIS RECORD LABEL DROPS HIM. Brava to Pippa for dealing with him so well!

I loved Donna too and her struggles. Poor Jamie, having to take care of her. I LOVED this conversation later in the book when he told her why he moved to Vancouver and how this all made him feel. And I'm glad that she listened!

All in all, I really loved this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me cringe and it surprised me in few moments not gonna lie, I really thought for a moment that Jamie's ex WAS pregnant with his child and that would throw a wrench in between Jamie and Pippa. I'm glad I was wrong!). I would give this book book 5/5 if it wasn't for the epilogue.

I HATE public proposals.. Absolutely loathe them. I can't stand them, they're humiliating and pressuring and I really dislike this trope (and event irl). The only saving grace is that Pippa and Jamie dated for 8 months or so before he proposed (even if for me it was still too short) ad they knew each other from before. I read a contemporary romance before that in which the main couple got engaged after 2 weeks of dating (after knowing one another for a total of 3 weeks including those 2 weeks of dating) so those 8 months really are the balm on my soul.. Because of that, the rating went down to 4 stars immediately

I'm also glad that there was no a third-act breakup, I was dreading it, but I'm so happy that I was wrong. Thanks to that, however, my total rating is 4,5/5. It's just a personal pet peeve why it's not full 5 stars as I've mentioned before.

All in all I loved the book and the writing, and I will definitely read more books written by this author. And I'm VERY excited about the second book about Hayley and Rory. And to learn more about Jamie and Rory's past and as they navigate their friendship again.
