I received this book through Netgalley in exchange for a honest review
I must start by saying how much I love fairy tale retellings. Seeing the resemblance to Beauty and the Beast is what brought me to reading this book. As far as the retelling in this book goes... after the lady being beautiful and the love interest being beastly in certain aspects there are no similarities.
So, if you are looking for a retelling I wouldn't so much recommend this one.
Now, I also have a soft spot for highland books even though I don't read them much. Which also meant I didn't know all the lingo well. I'm not saying this is a negative to the book - just something I need to practice :) I liked the wording and thought it helped bring me to the castle next to the sea.
We never figured out how Fia got her injuries exactly or what they looked like. She went back and forth from being beautiful to an uneasy sight to the men in the book. I just wish the author had picked one and stuck with it.
I did love the characters though and thought they worked together nicely.
The story was easy and fun to read. The moments with Bel, Fia's cat, were some of my favorite in the book. I laughed SO hard. The moments with the cat brightened up the book yet almost didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book.
I really enjoyed this book and I will probably read the next ones in the series.. which I'm hoping are more MacLeod daughters. So fun!
If you like highland setting romance books with a hint of fun, then I'd recommend this book to you!
