Beastly Bones was on par with the first novel, Jackaby, in terms of entertainment value. This novel's mystery was set in an archeological dig complete with competing paleontologists, hunters, and newspaper reporters. All things that were fascinating and totally fun to read about. Everything is tied up nicely at the end, leaving no loose ends to wonder about.

We do see more of Charlie, and get to witness as Abigail and Charlie sort of dance around their mutual crushes on each other. Very cute. Totally worth a read. Jackaby himself isn't actually in this book as much as he was in the first one – there were more characters to balance here so it makes sense. But his appearances do push the book forward into the plot, so there was no wastefulness here.

I enjoyed Beastly Bones, and will be reading the next entry in this series very soon!
