Whew. They don't write “inspirational” books like this any more! The Christian message isn't an easy one; dealing with tribulation can't be. Averil has a beautiful and vibrant faith and is eager to see those around her feel the same, and to learn to cast their burdens on the dear Lord Who has sustained her spirit so often. I liked the part of how her caring heart shines through and of how occasionally even she has a slip of the tongue and says things she regrets. I also liked that her body isn't perfect...she is too short and too crooked to bring the adulation of the world.
All in all, a beautiful story in an old-fashioned way. Rosa Carey felt called of God to write, and it shows.
