This was surely one of the best biographies of Lincoln, in relation to his fight against slavery and the founding of a better society. Alas, too short was his dream cut, but I was glad to discover the many facets of a great man I used to take for granted. there were defects, the human defects and the political ones. Here was a man coherent wish his vision, but was also tempted -and more than once- by the dark allure of compromise on the themes of true equality. We see here a man who fought for a true moral principle, a Prince.
I wanted to give a 5 star to this well-researched book, but there was a serious flaw: the word ‘nigger', or, rather, the lack of it, replaced by a more convenient n—-r
Seriously, guys, it's CRINGE! That word was used in a context, in the book: it was sentences spoken by people in the 19th century, the author never used it outside that context, and yet, here it is in all its glorious censorship!
What was the editor afraid of?!? Children learning a bad word and using it? Adult readers rediscovering the sick fruit of verbal sin? No way, Josè! This was one serious mistake, and I hope it's confined to this book only!
