The Savages are back, trying for a fresh start in Florida. Baby Kat is growing up, becoming quite the little evil angel and Sasha has left home, studying forensic science and criminology at a university in New York. While Sasha is away, the family lets in a lodger, Amanda - whom they need to keep a close eye on considering what she knows about them. Adjusting to the American lifestyle is taking its toll on the family (and their waistlines - their carnivorous diet in their new home has been less than lean...). Although he certainly tries, Ivan just doesn't get the 'all-American' thing, growing increasingly resentful of the rampant consumer culture. Grandpa falls for the elderly Irene, becoming more and more indiscreet of the Savages' culinary habits, much to the family's concern. Titus, meanwhile, is infuriated by the provocative ways of the restaurant where Amanda works, where her boss unabashedly hits on his employee. And Angelica seems unable to resist the temptations of being a Florida beach bunny - hunky personal trainer included...Have the Savages finally bitten off more than they can chew?

I haven't read the first in this series, having received this book through Goodreads first reads giveaway, but I plan to correct that soon.
I went into this book a bit apprehensive; horrors aren't really my thing. Yet to my surprise I adored American Savage. It's not such a horror as it is more a book about ordinary(!) family life, albeit one with a weird taste in food. Matt Whyman's writing is brilliantly dark yet funny, more people need to know about this book.
