Should be mandatory reading for anyone interested in the aftereffects of WWII in Germany. Timm writes with such compassion and deep understanding of the wounds he is unearthing–it is a treat. He is a wonderful guy and his writing never ceases to please me. If you want to read this in tandem with Weiter Leben by Ruth Kluger, you could not find a better primer for a post-Shoah discussion of Germany and the Germans.
