The final battle was jarringly abrupt. I felt like I coasted and suddenly hit the ending like a wall.
A good end to an enjoyable series (though I think there's now a fourth entry on Audible?). Just enough pathos to allow a bit of catharsis and give the story some extra punch.
This was an excellent series that I can't imagine never going back to. Hopefully the author goes back to this universe.
Enjoyable geeky books.
One funny thing, though, is that I hit a mention of “Christie Campbell, the Vancouver Island enclave leader”, and immediately had to go check - and yes, the author is from British Columbia. A fun thing to toss in for fellow BC'ers!
A nice continuation of the story, still good storytelling and visuals, and still too many Bob to keep track of. :-)
Irgendwann.
The first three books in the bobiverse are good fun quick reads. However, they could do with a little less gender stereotyping as this makes them feel more like they were written in the 90's.
A fitting conclusion to one of my favorite series.
A splendid book, highly recommended
The final part of this trilogy seemed to me to have less of the humour of the first two books. Perhaps, though, that's just because everything is coming to an end, forcing some of the story into a more reflective mood. The action builds to a climax, with the Bobs facing off against the hostile aliens and finding that there's no easy solution for dealing with them, so the stakes are pretty high there too as a possible apocalypse for the human race approaches.
Tha's really the main focus of the book, but set against that are the more personal travails of some of the other Bobs on the colony worlds and alien planets out of the direct line of fire. Here the theme becomes one of what it means for the Bobs to be immortal, as the people around them age and die. It's reflected in different ways for different iterations of the original Bob, and the endings are by no means all sad. Indeed, for all the challenges and the sacrifices made along the way, the overall message is one of optimism, albeit tempered by pragmatic reality.
Although a few loose threads are left dangling at the end (and, indeed, a fourth book followed) this does a good job of wrapping up the arc, with all the major plotlines coming to a conclusion. Having said which, they're largely separate by this point, barely impacting one another and serving more as counterpoints than as parts of one big whole. But they all blend together to make something bigger than the individual parts. The first book in this trilogy was, to my mind, the best, but this is still pretty impressive stuff, covering a wide range of different themes.
A really good read
I was really happy with this book and the series. I was sad there wasn't another in the series but also glad it ended on a high note and not dragged on too far.
Awesome story and conclusion to the trilogy. Finished my re-read before the 4th book arrives, which will be soon. Looking forward to seeing where DT takes the story next.
This series is the best current science fiction being published. Full stop.
If some literary alchemist distilled the choicest bits of KSR, Andy Wier, and Douglas Adams, the result would be Dennis E. Taylor.
Book 4 pls
A fast paced climax to the series. Overall this series balances humour, big questions and a bit of action. This last book was a lot more serious - it still had a lot of chuckles, but it really focused on the question of what is important in life: being remembered, your family, helping others, loyalty, curiosity, or what?
A surprisingly good series.
Although there's potential for a lot more to be told about the Bobiverse this book concludes all of the open threads of the last books and gives you a hint of what may become of the Bobs in the future. Another cracking read!
The same type of fun science fiction found in the previous two books, although much more emotional and mature at times. I really enjoyed the series, and I have no problem recommending them to anyone who is looking for a good time.
Really unique series. Managed to evoke a sense of exploration I rarely find in other books, and some parts almost feel like a god-game in bookform. Really enjoyable read!
Like a gourmet burger of a read. Nothing outstanding but an original idea that is well executed and enjoyable.
