Maybe I didn't give it a chance, or that it just didn't appear to be my usual taste in romance.
It was not it for me. I felt that Lily was only thinking about herself in some ways and that made me mad. She always said that she was helping Lo but actually she was adding to his addiction. I didnโt like the fact that they normalized talking about how skinny Lily was as a joke when clearly it was one of her insecurities and never addressed it in the book. And to be honest the only character that I genuinely liked was Connor.
DNF @ 10%, thought I'd give it a try even though it's not usually my cup of tea but couldn't get through it
finally decided to dnf this book and so, not continuing the series
probably a โme-problemโ and not precisely the book itself
E-BOOK & AUDIOBOOK
Very thankful that Fernanda recommended this series! So toxic, so addicting. I couldn't put this book down. Not a happily ever after ending. This will be a good series, but I might pause and read something a little lighter, softer.
Aรบn no se si me gustรณ, el comienzo me desesperรณ, luego me frustrรณ y al final llorรฉ. Y a pesar de que era obvio lo que iba a pasar, sentรญ que podรญa entender lo mal que los personajes se estaban sintiendo
I loved this book! At the beginning I thought Lily and all were really toxic for one another but at the end I was crying so badly it was ridiculus. I still believe they are wrong for each other right now, but I like where I think it is going.
I also loved the side carachter so I am really excited about the whole series!
Not that thrilled by it to be honest.
I don't get the hype, but to each their own.
started 6/18/22 and tried reading it until 7/5/22 but i just couldn't force myself to try anymore of it
too much hype around the book for me to not give it another try but DNF for now 9/21/22
โIsn't this the part where our love overcomes our addictions? Where our problems magically solve from a kiss and a promise?โ rating- 4/5
I'm bawling my eyes. THAT is not what i expected.
Did I pick this up because i thought it would be a light hearted romance series? yes. Am I disappointed that it is exactly the opposite of light hearted? honestly..not? This was something i didn't know I needed T_T
But then again I probably wouldn't have picked this up if somebody had given me the brief beforehand:
โA book about two addicts being dependent on each other, pretending to have a healthy life and dating. While in reality, they're infact not okay; absolutely spiralling, going off the deep end and enabling each other.'
the lack of plot
character-driven
somebody.
could've been shorter
repetitive
recurring, unchanging nature was a more realistic portrayal of their problems
Wait for me.โ The words come out choked and pained. โI need you to wait for me.โ
The half brother thing was pretty evident. The only thing i didn't anticipate was Ryke being Jonathan and Sara's son. idk.
Final thoughts:
this show us how sometimes we need to work on ourselves before we can get together with someone else. such a beautiful love story.
Thoughts:
โ I've come to really like Loren.. not love but like..
โ I can't say for certain, but I can feel Lily Calloway becoming one of my favorite characters.
โ I LOVE rcc.
โ I've already made up my mind to dislike Ryke (for..reasons.)
โ And I love Rose for being a supportive sister. I really do.
No I understand the hype about this series.
SPOILERS AHEAD
I love how they portrayed both addictions. And I love they didn't magically solve their problems at the end of the book like sometimes happens in books. Their addictions are so intrinsically part of who they are that it will take TIME and professional help for both to heal. I'm so glad I got the whole series in a deal in Google play :)
a bit disappointed but apparently this is the worst book in the series so we'll see
I absolutely loved this book. it was a good first book to a series. I loved that you got to take more of a look into both Lo's and Lilly's addictions. I also really like that it wasn't romanticizing addiction. I love Lo and I think he's a sweetheart. The plot twist at the end with Ryke I kind of saw coming but still was shocked. The ending was absolutely beautiful and made me cry at least five times. I started the book not really liking Rose but ended the book kind of loving her. she's such a good sister to Lilly!
honestly I think everyone should give this series a try.
Wow!
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ 6 Stars and 1๐comet! ๐๐๐๐๐๐
I want to kick all these insufferable, privileged, asshole characters in the shins. Also, a big fat NO @ using sexual assault as the climax/turning point of the book >:(
I got this book a while ago from Amazon for free. I read the description of it and was instantly intrigued by it. When I decided to read it I had several people tell me that I was going to love it so I had high hopes for this book.
This is probably going to be a very unpopular opinion but I don't understand the hype for this book. It was an extremely slow burn romance. There was pretty much nothing happening for the first 75% of the book and what was happening was very repetitive. Honestly If it wasn't for my buddy read partner I probably would have DNFed it, that's how bored I was.
I don't want to give anything away but it is was so apparent that Lo and Lily were in love with each other and I find it hard to believe that neither one of them realizes it. It was so obvious and neither one of them strike me as being that oblivious.
Things didn't pick up for me until the last 25% and that's when all kinds of stuff starts happening. That in and of itself annoyed me so much. Why?? Why do you have to wait until the last what 8 chapters to cram stuff in. It's like the authors were trying to cram so much stuff in at once cause they realized it was coming to an end.
If that wasn't bad enough for the majority of the book I kept saying I'm not going to continue on with this series but lo and behold those last 8 chapters hooked me and of course after pushing through this book for so long and finally having something happen the book ends on a cliff hanger. UGH!!! I mean I was really frustrated with this book it isn't funny.
Ok, ok I know you're all like dang Misty was there anything about the book that you liked and the answer to that is yes.
I absolutely loved the actual relationship/romance between Lo and Lily. I think their relationship is super cute and could be made so much better without their addictions.
Ryke!! Sweet ol Ryke. I think he might have been my favorite character. I guessed his storyline fairly quickly which was kind of a disappointment but I loved him. I loved how as soon as he came into the picture he told it like it was and didn't hold back.
The last 8 chapters. Like I said earlier those last 8 chapters hooked me and made me want to continue on with the series. I need to know how things turn out for Lo and Lily and the rest of the gang. I just hope that the second book doesn't take as long to hook me.
So overall I would say it was an ok read. I rounded this up to 3 stars but in my opinion it was like a 2.5 stars. I would definitely say if you are having trouble getting through this book stick it out to the end because it will be worth it.
This book is so good. I love how they try to work out they problem together and not by they self. Love how they love each other no matter what is going on in the life.
