I'm a quarter-ish Russian, so while I may not have heard a ton of Russian folklore as a kiddo, I knew about Baba Yaga. This is such a great spin on Russian mythology, and I love that the Zima is a wolf. This is the type of unique novel that can be enjoyed by a lot of ages. I'm 26 and I loved it just as much as I think I would've when I was 16.
A Wolf for a Spell is a breath-taking novel that throws a twist on fairy tales we know and love. The characters are beautifully written into the story with accompanying illustrations that really help you to imagine the story. It was very satisfying to see a wolf as a hero! The author has taken many characters and stories and has turned them into a tale that anyone who has passion for wolves, like myself, would love! It was exciting to watch how the characters dealt with each problem, each bit of conflict that came along. If you haven't already, request A Wolf for a Spell from your library!
Endy, Age 12
I love Baba Yaga stories, and this one is fantastic! Definitely one of my favorite middle grades. I loved the characters and the message of this book. And the cover is so beautiful.
