2024 re-read audiobook
Will say I was not as enamored with this book the second time ‘round. The first 50% or so I found quite boring as all the parts were put into place, but once they were or at least once I got used to it, I found it mostly enjoyable. I'll give the second book a try, but I don't have high hopes.

I received this book through netgalley, but all the thoughts and opinions below are my own

YES! I really really enjoyed this book. As soon as I ended it I turned to my fiance and said “this was a great book!!. The first in a while I truly enjoyed reading. Yet, there were still a few issues, which I will delve into.

I should start by saying I am a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes... although I can't remember if I've read one of the original books. So, when Charlotte deduced information about people I got all giddy with excitement. And Watson!! I love Watson. Really, it was a treat to figure out all the characters, although there were a ton of them who even narrated which was a bit confusing.

I liked how the story progressed. It was bit slow with all the set up of the characters and situations.... actually I think the first chapter could have been cut out and it would have been even better. I did enjoy the journey of finding out all the information from all of the characters. I was trying to use the information given to figure out the ending which... really... okay another negative is that. I would have liked the chance to figure out the ending, but there weren't any hints that I found– of course I could have missed them big time.

Another negative point, there wasn't much detective work by Charlotte. She didn't do the Sherlock thing! And she was set up to not love anyone, yet she does??? She loves her sisters and possibly Lord Ingram. Which is fine, but I would have liked this story even if it wasn't trying to be ‘female Sherlock Holmes' but did its own thing. Because Charlotte doesn't seem anything like Sherlock. Its like she starts out like Sherlock but then becomes a different character.

It was definitely a FUN read. I really enjoyed it on the surface but I do see the problems with it.
I look forward to the next book!!
