Review
I picked up “A Sign of the Times” because a) I'm a sucker for a free book (which is how this was described), and b) the name Joe Hill seemed familiar. It turns out that a) it's a short story (though still technically an e-book), and b) I was thinking of some other Joe. Or actually, I somewhere had heard the name Joe Hill, but associated it with the work of other Joes.
As for the story itself – it's pretty thin gruel, frankly. It's mildly amusing, but longer than the joke it works around, and nothing you haven't seen many times before. Released for Halloween, it feels like a stocking stuffer for existing fans, not an invitation to potential new fans like me. If you like Joe Hill, this is harmless fun. If you're wondering who he is, this book may answer the question, but won't send you looking for his book; for those people, I'd say, skip this.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
