A Night in the Lonesome October

There were some elements to this that worked really well in pairing recognizable historic monsters/characters with animals and telling the story from their POV, yet it was also difficult to understand the tone or vibe as the author mixed in horror, mystery, cosmic gods, magic, and maybe even some light-heartedness along the way. The pace also suffered a bit from the story structure, especially with a big event that is foreshadowed to the last literal chapter and few pages. This felt more like a decent premise that ended up under-developed and bit confusing at points.
