I knew of the story of the Little Rock Nine, but not the whole story. And who better to tell that story than one of the actual Little Rock Nine? Carlotta takes us back to a period before integration. She is a highly intelligent student and wishes to make her life so much better. So when a chance comes for her to attend a school where she may enhance her education, she signs on the dotted line.
But what comes after that is many years of pain and hardship. Yet Carlotta never gave up.
I cried and was hopeful as she told the journey she took while also being in the public eye. I give her a lot of credit and so glad she was able to make such a great life for herself.
I just wish that it never had to be so hard. Even today, many children of color in predominantly white schools don't have it easy. I wish everyone had to read this story and were able to get some compassion for all persons of color.
