Overall I like the book but I would have liked to have found out more about the house prior to it being at the bottom of the third lake. There were definitely some ominous moments where things did not make any sense to me. I felt like the relationship between Amelia and James seemed very rushed. I don't know if it was due to the fact that the book was so short and they needed their characters to connect quickly but needless to say, I didn't feel the love. I liked the book but maybe I would have liked it a bit more if it was longer and they provided more of a back story of the characters and the house.
This book was pretty short, but I enjoyed it. It's definitely got some mixed reviews. It seems very polarizing!
Plot Details
James and Amelia agree to go on a unique first date - canoeing on a lake. But then they find what appears to be a secret spot... a smaller lake with a house submerged in it. Finding it very strange, they decide to check it out. But what happens when they do?
My Thoughts
As mentioned, it seems there are a lot of people who really enjoyed this book, and a lot of people who didn't or were very unsatisfied at the ending. Honestly, I could see there being a sequel. The book was interesting, and definitely kept you reading as well as guessing how everything would play out in the end. I enjoyed reading about James and Amelia's emotions and thoughts as they explored the house, and I thought they were well-written characters. The only thing I really didn't like were the unanswered questions the story left you with. I felt like there was a lot more that could be told, but I can also appreciate that the author left it up to the reader's interpretation.
If you are interested in a quick read that injects a bit of thoughtful mystery into your head, I'd recommend it!

Very interesting! This story didn't scare me that much, but it made me think a lot about relationships and fear.

This one really wasn't for me. The scariest part of this book was the thought of all the fish smells the characters must have had to deal with. I didn't get the end. I didn't get any of it honestly. I was happy to see very clear consent given by the characters. I'm glad it was short because I wouldn't have finished it otherwise, not that I have any sort of resolution having read the whole thing.
Well, that was pretty weird. Unfortunately, this book didn't do much for me. I thought that this will creep me out but I ended up not feeling anything. Although, I found the exploration of the house to be very interesting but the ending ruined it for me.
*4.5 stars. Such a fun, immersive read. No pun intended. I loved the impending dread and the sense of urgency.
This had a lot of potential to be really horrifying and did have some moments where I held my breath, but it ended up feeling like a dud. Also, it was so short and still could have been half the length with all the filler taken out with a better focus on the creepiness of the situation and not so much about the kids' every day lives.
