This was...fine? I needed something just purely cracky after [gestures to the entire world] everything that's happened these past two weeks.

A Deal with the Elf King is a Hades/Persephone retelling, without actually saying that's what it is. But it totally is – the Elf King is death / shadow, and the main character, Luella, has the power of spring / regrowth. There's not much in the way of world-building, but that's okay. This is a fantasy romance. It's about the Elf King and Luella, and how they deal with what fate has thrown at them. [A human queen must use her magic of spring to recharge the Elf-world or the Elf-world will die.] Luella frequently second guesses her decisions, which was slightly annoying, but whatever. This book was good enough.

On top of that, there's minimal violence, which I liked. Plus, there was a neat wolf-companion! Hook was a good boy, yes, he was. (Nothing bad happens to Hook. He lives through the whole book.) Will I check out the other books in this series? Eh. Who knows. Maybe eventually, but not right now.
