A good tale to read en christmas and after all these years, I still enjoy it
This has been a favorite from the first time I heard the story as a kid. As an adult, this story has reminded me of the true heart and meaning of Christmas when I get grouchy at the focus on consumerism and getting that often is on display at Christmas time.
A trifle heavy-handed on the religion, but only a trifle, and it is a story about Christmas. In any case, one of Dickens' classics, and deservedly so.
Somehow, I'd never read this before, despite knowing the story and having seen the “Scrooge McDuck” cartoon (and a Muppets version?) and even being in the play when I was little. (I blame the fact that I got to “Great Expectations” first and decided none of Dickens' other books were worth reading.) It was actually quite good, and now I'm considering picking up more of his books, now that I'm not forced to read them for school.
This is still one of the best books I've ever read. I love reliving it every year.
Shorter than I remembered, but this is definitely a heartwarming redemption tale.
I loved reading the original manuscript. Such a lovely thing to read during the holidays. :)
My favorite kind of story...bad guy sees the error of his ways and turns good. Ages 12 up.
