French philosopher, novelist, and essayist, the lifelong companion of [Jean-Paul Sartre][1] and vice versa. Beauvoir's two volume treatise [Le deuxième sexe][2] (1949, The Second Sex) is among the most widely read feminist works. ([Source][3].)
