this book was super fun at the end but dragged on at the beginning. there was too much ‘fluff' about darien's work life and elle's sad home life but it built up suspense for when darien and elle finally met - great for the slow burn lover in me. all in all, i thought it was a cute retelling of cinderella and an homage to all the geeks everywhere! can't really relate to be honest, but i love the sentiment behind the book. the story was nothing groundbreaking, but definitely heartwarming :)

god i'm so happy that i'm (pretty much) (still need to read the epilogue) done with this series. the stories started getting sooo repetitive. the first trilogy was pretty addictive, but the three books after didn't have to exist imo. also them all being in high school kinda creeped me out LOL. i hope the kingdom duet rly pulls thru bc if it doesn't, i rescind my commitment of reading all of rina kent's entire backlist.
tbh xanders book made me a lil bored of this series but this one was wAY better. if ur gonna read please check trigger warning as there are details of child abuse.
first read april 2020

ok i'm really disappointed that i had this book on my shelf since its release and only decided to pick it up now. this was soooooo good. i loved how dark and mysterious and shrouded in conspiracy this book was. applauding leigh bardugo for her first adult release - can't want to see what's next for alex stern and the house of veil.
reread february 2024
did my reread on audio! i didn't realize how much of this book i'd forgotten. still such a good story and i'm excited to finally read hell bent after buying last year. i don't even know what to expect in the next book. also tbh i zoned out during some of the book and watched this recap by cailey's books on youtube, and she did a fantastic job!
i think it's hilarious that valentine summoned raziel to kill all nephilim but ended up getting killed by him
i'm convinced everything elizabeth acevedo is gold. can't wait to read clap when you land
I literally only bought this book from a discounted book sale because it made me feel nostalgic to when I read this in middle school but man, this was way better than I remember
this was miles better than hidden bodies, i think joe goldberg has officially made a comeback

rly RLY good! super creepy and atmospheric, and i'm really digging the get out x haunting on hill house premise. tiffany d. jackson is such an underrated author & deserves sm more hype! definitely gonna read more of her backlist later in the year :))
i'm not rating this because i only read one chapter, but there were so many things i did not like about this book already:
- the boys putting the lisbon sisters on a pedestal from a distance, meeting them properly, then deciding they weren't as pretty as they thought they were
- the blatant misogyny from almost every male character - boys sneaking into the girl's house, attributing a suicide attempt for jealousy over a BOY (which was pure speculation), even their father saying how dramatic they all were on their periods eye roll
- RACISM. direct quotes “he looked frail, diseased, and temperamental, as we expected a European to look” and “he came murmuring with his oversize jaw and loose lips, his tiny Japanese eyes...“
- ableism - the r-slur and m-slur are both used to describe a boy with down syndrome
in this book's defense, it was written in 1993 so there was a different standard of what was politically correct at the time. it makes me happy that in the 2020's we strive to read books from the aforementioned people groups that were the butt of the joke in older literature. this being said, i don't really feel like using my leisure time to continue reading a book that uses language i morally don't agree with.

this book was so great and magical: it made me smile, almost cry, frustrated, and would also make me angry. the thing is, part I of the book was sooo boringly slow. it took me a crazy amount of time to get through part I, and it bored me so much that i would even avoid picking it up. otherwise, parts II and III were amazing: well-paced and very engaging! in the last two-thirds of the book i couldn't put it down. also i ship lucian and emmett sosososososo hard i love them together and this has been my favourite forbidden love story i've read so far ugh

damn guess i gotta get my hands on thunderhead right fucking now so i can read this when it comes out
man i've seen this book everywhere and when i started reading it i was like hmmm how good can this actually be??? and the answer is that this book is DEFINITELY worth the hype. the best way i can describe it that its similar to fangirl but with more diverse characters and more intense complicated (but very well done) plot lines. it is SO GOOD. pls read this. one of my new favourites :””))
pls this has been the funniest volume so far
- yor's cooking
- daybreak
- ‘bankrupt' george
- nightfall
aaaand onto the next vol <3 lovin this manga
3.5 rounded down
kinda starting to think ya mysteries aren't my jam but idk gonna keep reading them!
4.5 stars!! probably my least fave of the tjr-verse but still amazing, the others were just better imo
