I think I'd still give this a 3.5 just because it's slower than the rest and the climax leaves a sour taste in my mouth, but still I am happily chugging along in this Mercy Thompson spiral. Book 4 tomorrow
I wanted to like this book so much more than I actually did. It had such a cool premise and really intriguing mystery with character that were both appropriately mysterious and likeable. But my god is this book a mess. The entire middle of this book is just one big mush that doesn't make clear anything that is happening. On top of that the world building is absolutely pitiful. Why can people step between world? Is it parallel worlds or just a singular one? Why is hell the singularity between them?? Who fucking knows, not the author & certainly not us.
The story is really interesting and I think the relationship between Mo Ran and Chu Wanning has real potential to be super sweet and one I keep with me for ages, but I don't think the writing style and the tone are for me. It was funny and easy the first 50 pages or so, but then I just get tired of the “humor” and just want the story to take itself seriously. May pick up the drama (if it ever airs), but as for reading I think I'll leave it at this first book
This one had a little too much going on for it to be completely cohesive but was still enjoyable
I wanted to like this book, but my god how do you make a death tournament filled with viciously moral grey characters BORING?? The only reason this isn't a 1 star is because of Alistair and the ending chapter.
This felt like reading a D&D adventure. It made me laugh, damn near made me cry, and was an absolute thrill. 5/5 Highly Recommend!
This one was definitely a wild time, if not a little sloppy on how the details came together. Still really enjoyed the read!
I'm really tired of the bad ass powerful female lead having to give up her powers for the sacrifice of others trope. It's played out and honestly just insulting. Yes she gets them back in the end, but that just makes it worse?? What was the point of her sacrifice then? All in all, I'm deeply disappointed in the end of the series especially with how much I enjoyed the beginning
Oh you sneaky little shit! It's been years since I read book one but holy hell did this book just blow it away entirely. Where the first book read very much like your traditional YA, this one ups the ante to a whole new level. It's clear that Lani Taylor was in it for the long haul for this story and I for one am excited to see where she goes next with it in the final book
I will forever stan Sailor Moon & going back to reread this series always brings me immense amounts of joy
If you loved The Untamed but absolutely hated the way the story was told and found it confusing, this book does such a better job of keeping the reader engaged and caught up!
I cannot put into words how much I enjoyed the end of this series. This ending was damn near everything I wanted and god did it fucking hurt at times. When I first started this series I thought I'd get this brash yet infectious female lead bent on revenger and what I ended up with was a complex and broken woman who gave so much of herself away to protect the ones she loved. This book stripped everything away and left us with one hell of a story to tell.
In total I'd give this book about a 3.5 star rating. The story was compelling and I found myself very much intrigued by the magic system and the religious lore behind everything, but this book felt like it just kept throwing things at me with zero answers, even by the time I reach the conclusion. I know there's at least two more books planned in this series, but I can't help but feel frustrated that I'm left MORE confused then I was when I started the book. I'll probably give the series another shot with the next book in April, but I must admit, I'm worried it will leave me equally as disappointed as I was with this book.
Bride, who? This book was everything I wanted in a modern omegaverse! Societal implications based on designation? Check. Kinky sex? Check. Funny banter & loveable characters? Absolutely check! This was sweet, fun, and everything I wanted from it!
