One of life's greatest joys is knowing that the main character in this book is a fictional person. I have never experienced anything as obnoxious as this guy. Listening to him yap is even worse than having to wait for Simon to finish Wind and Truth.

Wow, for some reason it always take a couple of books before I realize how much i dislike a series. I was about to dnf this whole thing multiple times. The characters are bland. Every single scene with multiple male characters is just a bunch of growling. The prose is so unnecessarily intense all the time that when we get to an important chapter that changes the whole story it just feels like anybother dialog. Simply because these people talk to each other like they are in the middle of a battle at all times. So its all just bland.
Then it happened. I read a lifechanging Reddit comment. It said “If you go to McDonalds and expect a Michelin course you will always be disappointed”. I have now lowered my expectations dramatically, and I think I'll be able to survive the series. This is truly the McDonalds fries of fantasy. They are horrible, unless you know exactly what you are getting yourself into before diving in, then they are just ok.
Reading some other reviews of this book on here makes me feel like we read entirely different books. It is insane to me that this book is rated higher than The Return of The King. What are these people smoking?

The worldbuilding is exquisite.
It feels like she read The Wheel of Time between this book and the previous one. Then she copied all the cool stuff and rewrote it with her anxiety inducing prose, where every sentence has to kick you in the face. Finally, she added some witches that are so cartoonish that I envision them fighting like Tom and Jerry every time I have to read a Manon chapter.
I fell off half way through. Will have to come back to this sometime by rereading the whole series.

Once again it is so cool to get the criminals story in the end. It's like getting two books for the price of one.

I don't know why I bother returning to this myth genre. I never enjoy it. It's probably a good book, just not for me.
It feels like the good parts of the story are glossed over and done in a few pages, while the uninteresting parts draw on and on.
6/10
I liked the longer stories better.
Also adding this book to the «Books I read while waiting for Simon to read Wind and Truth» list

Weird time skip. Weird choices by Darrow. Weird POVs out of nowhere, which felt even more wrong when the narrator for Darrow is on another league compared to any of the new narrators.
This just feels like an interlude to be honest.
10/10
Insanely good the whole way through. The twists just keep on coming and minor characters are deeper and more interesting than many other books main protagonists.
Yet another series where I am waiting for the conclusion.
8/10
Start and end was amazing. Part 3 feels like it could have almost been a spinoff short story.
8.5/10
I feel like I fell out of the book a bit in the middle part. The start was cool, but the strongest part of the book was the end. It was just chapter after chapter of crazy war, betrayal and reunions.
9.5/10
I listened to the audiobook for this and had like 7 or 8 hours left when I thought to myself, “This shit is already insane. It can't peak like this for 7 more hours?!”. And then it only got better and better.
Might be an unfair rating as I zoned out almost half the book on several flights.
The audiobook narration by the author was good.
Pirate adventure - 7/10 - Cozy
Healer lady - 9/10 - Every POV other than Celaena is a blessing
Sand Snakes - 3/10 - Almost DNFed here. Funnily enough, this was just as bad as the Sand Snakes plotline in the GoT show.
Helping(?) Slaves - 6/10 - Pretty weak plot twist
RIP - 6/10 - This part was pretty good until the plot twist was basically the same as the last part. Also, I have no problem with stupid characters, but how did these guys ever get to be “the best in the world” when they are this dumb and oblivious?
9/10
I loved the second part. Actually seeing the reason for the crime from the killers perspective was cool!
10/10
This book was awesome. I love more or less every single character even though they can be stereotypical sometimes. Gloktas inner monologues are amazing, also due to Steven Paceys wonderful narration. The ending is surprising considering this is the end of a trilogy, so I guess I'll just have to move directly onto the next one.
10/10
Absolute perfection, only amplified by the narrator of the audio book!
Gloktas point of view is one of my favorite POVs of any that I have ever read. The characters are so different and provide different views on the same events in a refreshing way. You can easily identify if what you, as a reader, are told is a characters opinion or fact. This is probably because multiple characters give their thoughts on the same events within short amounts of time.
Looking forward to the next one and adding this to the list of audio books I will re-listen when I don't want something new.
9.5/10 - Audiobook
Fun, mostly lighthearted. Awesome references, great narration by Wil Wheaton. There's not much more to ask for, really. Only subtracting a half point since some of the solutions the character finds are a bit too convenient. It's definitely worth a re-listen l!
9/10
Loved it! Would have liked some more umph from last couple chapters to hype me up for the next book.
6/10
The middle part of the book is a solid 8/10 and some of the best writing of the entire series. However, the last quarter of the book is a slog and a very unsatisfying ending to a 7 book series.
I was hoping for more when I started this series.
5/10
How do you write a whole fantasy book without even accidentally creating a likeable character?
I liked the premise/plot, but not much else. Feels a bit like wasted potential.
I think I'll have to read the next one, rather than listening to the audiobook. The narration for this one was very cringe indeed.
7/10
The ending was amazing, but the first 2/3 of the book was waaaaay too slow for me.
