A rare book that is very to get your hands on. Found this quite by chance at the second hand book store at the Prithvi Theater in Mumbai
This is an absolutely fantastic collection of short stories. Equal parts morbid, dark and funny Tejaswini has a gift for words. Each story is compelling in it's own right. I had a great time reading this collection and look forward to more after this incredible debut
There are many start your own thing playbooks out there. Somehow this one felt almost relaxed and calming.
Instead of making the idea of starting something on your own feel like a sometimes-insurmountable challenge, for the first time I began to feel like it is something achievable
I always felt I lacked the right mindset to start something of my own. This book won't make me start anything but reassured me in its simple messages that is a viable reality.
This is such a timeless book. Set in the 70s and the 90s , it is a riveting insight into my country's culture, around the time I was born but was too young to truly comprehend. It's also quite funny at times and has certainly inspired me to take a deeper interest in my own culture
This is a dazzling collection of true stories, that I felt actually let me understand the core nature of my own people in a new light
A beautiful insight into a culture and people I never had the chance to understand before this
A nice set of essays set in the 80s and 90s of India
Easy read that gave some much needed insights into a different Indian era. The selection is diverse and the viewpoints of the author are reasonably open
This book is a collection of stories about Indians who have moved away from their motherland. It's about their lives and trials and tribulations and most of the stories have no happy endings. Still the author's writing is exceptional and I read through the book faster than I expected too.
If you decide you want this one, please get the audiobook. It is simply the definitive way to experience this incredible memoir of Will Smith. His journey from the beginning to now is a fascinating one. All the emotional highs lows are laid bare. It's equal parts insightful and funny. I have always believed African American voices to be one of the most powerful and impactful and this one is narrated by WIll himself.
Besides this key point the other advantage the audiobook brings is that it sprinkled throughout with music and songs that were such a big part of his life. As an added bonus, Will Smith does the most awesome impressions of other people that are part of the book
This was wonderful collection of essays that cover a broad spectrum of arts. Mostly books, but also movies, artists and photography. Sent me on a nice little journey of discovery about so many significant artists across the ages
I usually don't have the best experience with Audiobook versions of books, but this one being read in Obama's magnetic voice made all the difference. It truly felt like he was relating his life before and during his first term as president to me. Though the American political system differs from ours in vastly diverse ways this was a riveting insight into what goes into the decision making as president of one of the most influential nations on earth.
Such a well researched and wonderfully written biography of one of India's most influential rulers. The extraordinary lengths to which Akbar went to harmonize the diverse people of the country is quite remarkable. While we are a modern country by many standards I couldn't help but feel we have also lost something that we had almost 500 years ago. A greater sense of unity.
This was quite a fun listen. I wish I had read something like this in my younger days. Also, because the audiobook is narrated by the author himself and the fact that the material is of a conversational nature, I strongly suspect the paper version would not have had the same impact
Not all of the stories worked for me but overall a well-written thought-provoking collection
I rarely read non-fiction. This one was recommended to me by a stranger. I loved it. It's a practical and easy to read book. Most importantly there were lessons that were immediately actionable
