This book was pointless. I thought it was going to be an investigative legal story but it was just a miss mash retelling of events over and over. The potential legal story was just a small tiny part of the story. I listened to the audiobook that felt like this: 4 hours of horrible incident told several times, 10 hours of whining boring interpersonal relationship, 2 hours legal story.
I really liked the concept behind this series. It was so deep that it took quite a while for the story to get moving. I gave this a 4 star but its just barely. The author had to repeatedly try to sell us on the motivation behind the villain and I think that's because it was so convoluted and in my view not a strong motivation to do everything that happened.
My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me: A Black Woman Discovers Her Family's Nazi Past
Wow this was an amazing story and the amount of research she did of her families past. I feel for her pain of having to hide her past in situations because of the horrific actions of her grandfather. This reminds me of the question “Would you wear a sweater that was worn by Jeffery Dalmier?” Most people will not under assumption of linking to the horror he performed even if he never wore that sweater while performing them. She desperately tried to wear the sweater but could not really put it on. Putting it on means nothing about her character or actions but accepting the history.
Growing up in Wichita during the 1970's-80's BTK this book brings back memories. My brother and I had actually visited the murder locations as we are true crime fans. This book gives a lot of details and I actually learned a few things from the interviews with BTK. I only gave a 3 because it really was just a rehash of other books.
Ok I give up on this series. I really tried to stick with it but it has too many issues to me. I was looking forward to the series with a strong female FBI agent as the lead character. But having a man read the audio book and attempt a horrible feminine voice finally got to me. I really got tired of the constant sexual treatment of the character. Every guy checks our “her curves”, all the terrorist try to rape/sexual assault her and her PTSD was horrible and used over and over and over. It made her become an unsympathic hero. One last thing, maybe it was the audio book but there is a lot of YELLING by characters. “GET HIM ON THE PHONE NOW”. I really tried to stick with it but I am out of this series.
It was interesting but something about the writing bugs me. Is it because every response is too dramatic “don't wait for warrant just do it now now”, “get that tracker on the car or we will loose him. Do it now right now”. Or maybe it's because while she is a strong female lead she always is portrayed as a supermodel with at least one male character completely infatuated with her. Seems unnecessary as the terrorist story is very good.
