3/5 • A book that has spent years on my TBR.
After probably 5+ years on my TBR I finally read Holes. I enjoyed the story and the relationships between the characters. As a high school teacher it's a book I can now confidently recommend to my junior students. I've watched the film several times and they did an excellent job with the adaptation from paper to on screen, so much so that I don't feel the need to revisit this book anytime soon.
5/5 • Literal goosebumps!
I can't believe I hesitated on this book for so long. I started it early last year and the first 100 pages didn't really grab me so I put it down. Finally picked it up the other day and wow, the writing, the story, the character relationships were all superb and that ending was just heartbreaking!! Couldn't recommend this book more.
3/5 • Really wanted to love it.
I think this book has been recommended to me the most over the past year or so. I went in with high expectations and whilst I did enjoy some of the story I found most of the characters to be quite frustrating and honestly unlikable. The storyline was relatively predictable, I did enjoy the court trial and the descriptive language used to describe the landscape. Overall a pretty avantage read.
5/5 • Worth the hype!
As someone who grew up not watching iCarly, and was unaware of who Jennette was when this book gained popularity I still immensely enjoyed this book. It was honest, raw and shocking at times and I would highly recommend it to anyone as it sheds some light into the turmoil child actors can face growing up in the spotlight.
4/5 • A more insightful self-help book that Trixie and Katya's début.
I found this book to be more organised, useful and content rich than its first instalment “A Guide to Modern Womanhood”. There was less dialogue and filler pages and it appears more time was taken in the planing and sequencing of the book. Would definitely recommend to fans of both Trixie and Katya, I got many laughs and some actual takeaway advice.
5/5 • “He experienced the singular pleasure of watching people he loved fall in love with other people he loved.”
There are multiple characters' lives that were depicted in “A Little Life” that I will go on to remember, mourn and take with me for many years to come. The way Hanya Yanagihara displayed the characters and their life events made me feel as if I knew each and everyone of them personally. Would recommend this book to anyone that wants to cry until their face feels numb!
