That was very entertaining to read! I enjoy thriller and mysteries, but i think the reason that i enjoyed this book so much is because of the protagonist. Lily is a psychopath that i never thought i would root for but here i am.
The best parts of the book are near the end, despite the fact that I really enjoyed the story, I didn't care much about the heroine nor the romance. I did though enjoy Rhysand, Lucien and at some extent Nesta.
2.5
I feel that the series unnecessarily protracted. It's sad that i found myself losing interest in the plot and the characters that i used to love.
Although i'm satisfied with Jonas and Lucia conclusions, i still feel disappointed about the last two books of the series.
I'm astounded by the author's unique imagination, this book has an amazing construction and a vicious heroine that you can't help but to root for, it's the kind of book that i knew i loved it from the first 20 pages. the haunting atmosphere, the amazing writing and the intriguing plot made this book everything i want and more.
i think the author excels at writing strong minded and morally grey heroines, and of course, charming, wicked, villains.
So good! Nothing fancy when it comes to the worldbuilding and story structure but i thought it was entertaining.
“Because I am lost," she whispered onto the earth. "And I do not know the way.”
I'm still conflicted about the rating. While i loved the first two books of the series, i really struggled with this one. There were numerous things that i loved but it was also so slow and a huge portion of the book was very boring.
I understand what the author is trying to do - introducing new concepts and forging a way for the next books to follow. But my problem wasn't the storytelling - which was amazing. My main issue with this book is the way it dragged. I liked Celaena's chapters at first, but then they became too angsty, too repetitive and honestly i found myself not caring at all about her time in Wendlyn. I had a hard time not to skim her chapters, and by the time i finished the book, i forgot everything that happened in her parts. So basically i wasn't fully immersed in her journey and that is a me problem to be honest. Also, Rowan is so dull.
As for the saving graces of the book, the introduction of Manon was so good. I loved the witches sub-plot and i absolutely loved Manon and Abraxos. I'm so looking forward to see where her character arc is heading.
I still think the pacing picked up by the end of the book. The last chapters were super intense and i honestly was on edge when i reached Chaol and Dorian chapters. My heart broke for them, i love these two so much and they deserve so much better. Aedion was a cool addition to the story, i enjoyed the chapters where he and Chaol teamed up, i thought they made an awesome duo.
To sum it up, this book is definitely shifting the story into a new direction that i'm not sure it will be to my liking. I enjoyed half of this book because of the side characters and i will definitely continue the series for them, but this is probably my least favorite in the series
"I wish you to know you have been the last dream of my soul."
Sydney Carton you will always be famous
One of my favorites retellings. This Romeo & Juliet retelling was quite creative and added depth to the side characters such as Benvolio, Mercutio and Rosaline. The writing is gorgeous and the author managed to immerse me in verona in a similar way the original novel did. The romance was slow-paced but mature and hard not to root for. Highly recommend for those who enjoyed the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet and found themselves needing more from the Capulets and Monatgues dynamics.
Huge improvement in plot and characters!
Also i liked how fast paced this was, i read it in one setting
i honestly didn't care about Alina in the first book but she developed the spunk that i adore in this installment. This is my favorite book in the trilogy by far, it can be slow at times but i thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't hate Mal and he made sense to me at times but i do find his relationship with Alina lacking in many ways, i also happen to root for The Darkling and i know i'm setting myself up for disappointment. Nikolai, though, him i loved, hands down, best character in this series. My favorite parts were when Nikolai, Alina and Mal gets into any kind of argument, the banter is so good.
That was a short fun story. It feels weird to see the characters come to life through art.
“But death was her curse and her gift, and death had been her good friend these long, long years.”
That was a strong emotive sequel! I loved it so much.
so much happened, so many twists and turns and I still can't fathom what i read.
there's huge improvement when it concerns the characters, I felt Celaena's character was more likeable in this book as we finally see her in action, I loved her friendship with Nehemia but her relationship with Chaol broke my heart and sewed it back by the end, Dorian is way cooler in this instalment and I'm glad he got his own development.
“How did I escape? With difficulty. How did I plan this moment? With pleasure.”
The pièce de résistance that i've been looking for
i honestly don't know what i feel about the finale. the first part of the book was slow and later parts were quite exciting. the ending could've been more elaborated but overall it's fine.
Utterly addictive. I'm fascinated by the storytelling and the absorbing writing.
Reading this book is like being swooped into a comic book, except that graphics aren't needed because the author's detailed description and wonderful prose displays the sinister atmosphere of the story.
I was predisposed to love this book because of the delightfully dark characters and complex dynamics, but i wasn't expecting to be completely immersed in this magnificent story.
