3,5 out of 5 stars.
My thoughts:
the titles for the grisha are extremely confusing and after finishing the entire book i'm still not entirely sure what is what and who is who and what rank it portrays
Alina is DUMB, but I love Genya and the darkling so much
When Baghra completely random pulls alina apart and tells a few things alina throws the whole thing around and it ANNOYS ME. I honestly still don't understand how Baghra is still alive if the darkling is so old? And if she's an amplifier as well, does that mean she was the darkling before him? But no one ever asks or explains and it just leaves me confused as to how that works. Nonetheless, I thought it was a bit weird of a twist.
Reading the rest of the story I wished alina had stayed at the castle and had found out about darklings plan only when he already foun: the stag or when they'd be in the shadow fold and he'd go and threaten everyone. I honestly also didnt enjoy mal & alina's trip to find the stag. Alina finding sudden strength in the stag also goes against what she's been told by both Baghra and the Darkling and that makes it a bit of a weird twist for me to make her suddenly able to overcome the Darkling's commands.
The ending is not too good, but I enjoyed the extra chapter about Genya a lot. It gave me more insight to her as character and to her background and the same goes for the Darkling who appeared in this character.
Besides the point above I just don't enjoy Mal too much. It's probably influenced by the fact I wanted Alina to stay at the castle and find out later and the fact I didn't enjoy their ‘camping trip' but he's not very interesting to me.
I LOVED the writing though and besides the fact the titles are confusing the lore and worldbuilding is amazing and interesting. I'd only wish we had gotten to know more about this land, but I have two books to go and I'm both very curious and excited about reading them.
I loved reading this book.
It had actually kind of missed reading dystopian and this one is such a good one.
The romance between Day and June is one I truly like.
The constant action kept me glued to the pages and the book has a constant factor of wanting to know more due to both characters finding things they're not supposed to.
This book is just so good.
It is full of hope and despair and light and good. It is a read that makes me cheer for the characters and their mission. It drew me in, made me want to search every name and location just to find more about this wonderful world Tolkien made.
And though the peril in the book is great the fellowship is brave and good and gives me hope during a time where I too am in need of hope and help.
I simply loved it.
This book was, if possible, even better than the last.
It had tension, it was exciting and it was dramatic.
There were lots of tiny twists, but bigger ones weaved in between and I enjoyed then all.
I cried when Runningwind & Yellowfang died, I'm gonna be honest and gasped when Tigerclaw appeared in the end though I already knew he was gonna.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one; onto the next!
Obviously The Hobbit is a complete five out of five read.
Tolkien's writing is, to me, very unique in the best way possible. He is descriptive but yet never truly describes anyone fully. The little side notes (written like this) are a fun touch, too.
Then the story itself is just good. I already knew it would be, but it is such a fun story and you really root for Bilbo through all the pages. The characters are all lovely and different from one another.
I liked the “sudden” ending too of the book. It makes me wonder what kind of avontures he had between the end and the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring. I hope he had many good ones.
Lastly, I thoroughly enjoyed the drawings and songs in this book. It truly gave the book an unique feeling.
Anyway,
I was already in love with Middle-Earth, because of the movies that I watched before I read the books (oops) but reading the books made me love this world and its characters even more.
Now that the book is finished I'm feeling that little empty hole inside me
This is going to be a wild ride so...
SPOILERS AHEAAAD!
First off; I LOVED Aurora Rising. In fact I can't stop thinking about it (or this sequel) and I think it might be a new time favorite. I loved the writint, the characters, the pacing, the plot.
(The only thing I didn't like were the amount of genitalia related jokes m throughout the book/books, like seriously what? Tho the characters are teens and it can be excused)
And I absolutely loved Aurora Burning too, but here comes the but...
BUT....
What the fuck was that one chapter?
I'm gonna spoil it because I tagged it and you should look away right now if you haven't read this one yet.
Kal's father is revealed to BE the Starslayer. Yes that one who destroyed a star. Who murdered billions of his own people. And yes Kal lied to his squad by saying his father died. But he LOVES AND DEFENDED HIS SQUADMATES FOR TWO ENTIRE BOOKS.
Just for them to be incredibly angry with him and call him a ‘betrayer' and after they dump him on some star they call it a ‘betrayal' whilst Kal literally didn't do anything.
Yes he lied and yes you can be hurt about it, but Kaliis is literally not evil and they are all pretending he is and it REALLY threw me off.
There was no reason for this big of a reaction and I guessed its just for plot reasons and drama and I was right.
Because almost literally the next chapter SAEDII (you know the DAUGHTER of the Starslayer, someone who had been actively TRYING TO KILL squad 312) is suddenly friends with Tyler.
Tyler Jones who actively kills Kal a ‘betrayer' for not telling the squad his father is a massmurder decides it's totally okay for him to become ‘friends' with his sister Saedii without calling himself a hypocrite.
In the last 200/100 pages it is revealed to us the Starslayer is a Trigger too, like Aurora, which (once again) makes me question the Eshvaren and their well ‘goodness'
Why did they allow him to use a weapon like that? Why is there no safety question in use? But alas, it's interesting and brings up new information:
- the Eshvaren have created every race to find a solution for the Ra'haam.
Oh and then everyone is about to die in the last chapter and the book ends so whoops.
I loved the book and I will love every ounce of the third book (please give us a release date) but the chapter with “Kal's betrayal” made me SO mad.
So that's why its a 4/5.
This book js about so much more than jusf Jude & Cardan and I was so interestsd in everything BUT THEY ARE THE BEST COUPLE
This one is so much more like able than like the entirety of TNP.
Though some parts are a tiny bit awkward but it makes sense cause basically all the POV's are from an apprentice.
Also Jaypaw is such a cute grump and his POV's are very distinctivinely him which makes me enjoy his parts even more.
Still it wasn't the strongest book with oddly a lot of ‘kittypet' remark, annoying asf.
Can't wait for the rest!
Once again a 5/5 read.
This book was a great finale to the prophecies begin.
Tigerstar is finally killed in this book, but an even bigger evil takes it place.
The clans decide to unite and stand with Firestar against Scourge. Epic, right?
Greystripe is made deputy after Whitestorm dies, but it should have been Longtail, clearly
anyway i had a blast reading the first series and can't wait to read the second series: the new prophecy!
this was a really weird book to explain the events mentioned in AVOS and as far as I know is the only book where the events actually get mentioned later on (the flood, stormcloud) but Bramblestar was really bland and his “love” with jessy was really fucking weird
The book is very different from what I read normally but the concept and worldbuilding are very good to me. The language and writing style can be a tad difficult (at least to me, whose second language is english) and it can be a quite confusing sometimes to me. Some parts I've had to read double/again to really let it stick. That makes me question how this is apparently supposed to be a children's book? Anyway, I love Lyra a lot and her character is enjoyable. I like the other characters too and i'm curious to read the next book in this series
