I love Bree and Archer so much. Their chemistry was so well done! They literally spoke their own language.
Archer. Sweet, silent Archer. He deserved so much in his life. I'm happy he got there in the end. Not just as he found his place in the world, but how he found himself. He started off as a grumpy hero (we all know I love that trope) But as I learned more about his past, I realised that he wasn't grumpy, he was wounded. But he overcame that, and like Bree, I loved him for it.
Bree. She was kind to everyone and held her tongue when she couldn't be. She was strong and resilient. She knew what she wanted and didn't waiver. There was something in the way she loved Archer so fiercely that made me want to cry. I knew Archer loved her too, of course. But, ah, the way she loved him. It broke my heart.
The character development was really well done. I loved the side characters. Although they didn't add to the plot, they added to the story, if that makes sense.
Lastly and most obviously, I have to acknowledge the last few chapters because Mia Sheridan did me so dirty with that one. Not gonna go into too much detail but my emotions were all over the place.
Verdict: Archer's Voice made me want to move to a small town and fall in love.
TW: abuse, alcoholism, attempted rape, shooting
I have no words.
Well, that's not entirely true. In fact, I have many words. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo took me on a wild ride– the ride being her life, that is.
We follow Evelyn Hugo (formerly known as Evelyn Herrera) on her journey navigating relationships, friendships, and stardom. The lengths she went through to reach her goals was truly something to marvel at. It was a joy to see her struggle and later succeed. I love Evelyn as a character. She's strong and calculating but also soft in many ways.
However, there were some heartbreaking moments scattered throughout the book. So much so, I had to put the book down to brace myself for what was about to happen.
When I started reading, I had said that it's nice to see how the lucky few who happen to find themselves in a place of wealth and fame live. But in the final few pages, call me an empath but all I could think was “If they all have to go through this, I feel terrible for the rich and famous.”
The characters were engaging and much like Daisy Jones and the Six, they felt so real. I couldn't (and didn't want to) put this book down.
TJR is possibly my new favourite author.
5 Stars
Oh my gosh. Be still my pounding heart!!! This was so much fun.
Honestly, I went into this not caring one bit about American football. So, I thought I wouldn't enjoy it very much.
But wow oh wow was I wrong. Vanessa and Aiden were the cutest pair. I love that their relationship stems from respect and friendship (the best relationships often do)
I loved their banter. And that Aiden was saved under Miranda P. on Vanessa's phone. I loved that they both loved their jobs. That Aiden was so honest and open with Vanessa, and so unlike how he is with anyone else. Every time Aiden or Vanessa told people that they were husband and wife, my little heart soared!
I'm sure you already know this but this is a slow burn. Like, SLOOOOOW burn. But they both knew. Well, we all knew that they were in love with each other from the start.
Best Nickname award goes to:
Big Guy (aka Sunshine) and Muffin ♡
Sigh, there was just so much to love. 5 stars all around!
this one took me a little longer to get through but the quest was still really fun.
tyson is the mvp!! little baby stole the show
i give the Sea of Monsters 4 Cyclops eyes
This book was... anger inducing. But it's also so important. There were moments where I just wanted to scream at Lily to make the right decisions. But it's just not as easy as it sounds. I understand that now.
listened to the audiobook while i was walking around a bookstore and i started crying in the YA section
“Death isn't happening to you. Death is happening to us all”
Definitely quenched my curiosity on the subject of cremation. Answered questions I didn't even think to ask. This book took me a while to get through because it was a bit uncomfortable to read at times.
Wouldn't recommend to those who are squeamish as it talks about what happens to bodies after death in some detail– not limited to cremation either. Discusses other culture practices too.
I love this book so much, I could cry... scratch that— I actually did cry at some point (surprise, surprise!)
Enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, what more could I ask for? And in true Mariana Zapata fashion, this was a slow, slooooow burn. But it was so worth the wait.
Kulti and Sal's relationship was formed from equal admiration for one another. They relied on each other, they pushed each other and at the end of the day, they were a team, as Kulti so aptly pointed out.
Sal is stubborn and kind. She makes a genuine effort to not be an asshole to anybody but she also doesn't let anyone push her around. I like that she was honest (not counting omitting the truth on certain occasions). She loved her family and I loved her for it.
Kulti is the swooniest hero. Under all the grump, he was just a giant softie. The words he said to Sal when declaring his love? I screamed. He's the hate-everyone-but-you sort of hero; the I'll-give-you-the-world-or-watch-it-burn-trying sort of hero. To add icing on the German chocolate cake, he was HER hero.
Never meet your heroes, friends... unless they're a Kulti then you're probably the luckiest person on earth.
I give this one a 5 out of 5 tacos.
I've already said this but this series is so entertaining that I flew through it in a day.
I think they wrapped everything up nicely, although it felt very rushed towards the end. The next couple of books has a time jump so I'm assuming we'll get more of the politics then.
Emotions I felt while reading:
The angst made me a bit angry. Mostly because they had the same arguments over & over.
I cried at the letter America's dad left for her.
My heart swooned for the letters Maxon gave America.
Absolute betrayal. They killed off Celeste when she was probably the best character.
I cheered when Aspen called Maxon “the King”
i enjoyed theorising what had happened. some of my theories were way off the mark but most were spot on.
final thoughts: there was so much self-inflicted pain. these characters really need therapy.
I flew through this one! I don't think it was as good as the first book— too much angst for my taste. But it was still very entertaining.
Starting to realise that I really like fantasy.
I've heard a lot of hype on A Court of Thorns and Roses and it was completely justified. I absolutely loved this book. The characters, the magic, the romance!!!!!! Sigh. There was so much to love.
I have to admit, it took me a few chapters to get really into it. It happens whenever I read fantasy. I had to take time to adjust to the world. But once I had, I couldn't stop reading! I chuckled, gasped, commentated out-loud and even made angry/excited hand gestures on my commute to work. But I didn't cry! That's a great feat for me if you haven't been following.
There were moments, in the latter half of the book, where I willed myself to read faster. I couldn't wait to reach the end; to see how everything plays out. I was at the edge of my seat, as they say. My will to read faster was, thankfully, met with an outstanding final few chapters. Made the whole “time to adjust” thing seem pretty worth it in the end.
Now that I've finished it, all I can really say is... I need to read A Court of Mist and Fury now.
First book for pride month!
I also think this is my first sapphic romance? CRAZY. It was so cute, i loved it.
It's enemies-to-lovers + fake dating + 1 bed trope... what more could I ask for, really? Irene and Scottie were adorable. Their banter was great (sometimes a bit too mean but I'm a bit soft). I love Irene SO MUCH.
I loved the side characters so much. HoneyBelle and Gunther were favs
This one felt more angsty compared to the others but I still loved it. Michael is an absolute sweetheart!!! Francesca was so strong to have gone through everything she went through.
Edit: the epilogue!!!!!!!
It was alright. I really didn't like Gareth... or the plot line with the diamonds.
The stars are for Hyacinth and Lady Danbury.
I liked their story. Colin and Penelope make a very charming (hah! See what i did there?) couple. I like that they became friends and progressed from there. The whole thing with Lady Whistledown was well done. I loved Lady Danbury in this one. Other than the stuff about him pitying her, there wasn't too much second-guessing which was good because it always annoys me when they do that. I liked that they were both aware of their faults but still accepted each other. Colin being jealous of Penelope's success was a nice touch. I enjoyed his writing. Also, I'm very proud of Penelope for being Lady Whistledown. That ending was spectacular! Colin's declaration of love was one thing, but the moment Lady Danbury started clapping? I actually hollered.
My only gripe with the book is that the ending felt rushed. The solution was simple enough but it just felt like it could've been drawn out a little longer. Also, that they kept mentioning how Colin never loses his temper, but he does it quite often and he flips his emotions a lot. Which is a bit of a red flag to me
This book was so... FUN. I've been in a slump for weeks and this was exactly the lighthearted, fast-paced read I needed.
The Bachelor if it was royalty? We love to see it.
