i liked it.
found family is one of my favorite tropes. for the first half of the book, i was almost sure this will be a 5-star.
but i guess i quickly lost the magic as the climax started. i felt like frances has been paid dust compared the massive emotional labor that she had throughout the book. even daniel had a proper apology but frances, with all her understanding and sacrifices wasn't even given an apology for the stuff she felt responsible for even though it's the twins and their incapability to outright tell people their feelings that is the real problem.
she had spent years feeling responsible for carys. she was left to pick up the broken pieces when aled had his outburst and no one but raine had ever told her that she shouldn't feel sorry at all. i dunno, i guess being that close friends make it all okay and at least, aled ended up okay but for me, frances is still very underappreciated and i hate it.
what the hell what didn't i notice that i was reading the first book of a duology?
a great read overall! earlier as i was reading the last quarter left of the book, i was thinking how it had been anti-climactic so far. i wasn't that satisfied with the reveals and even matthias' complete turn of understanding about the rights and the wrongs of his and nina's belief didn't garner such satisfaction to me.
BUT the last 5% pulled me back in. i'm kinda annoyed that i was left with a cliffhanger but maybe it was my fault for missing the fact that this universe is a duology. yet, as a complete kaz × inej truther, i'm also so stroked about crooked kingdom.
3.5 stars
good communication and he took her last name??? a girl can't ask for nothing more
tbh i'm a softie and i don't like enemies to lovers trope (because i just don't like two characters bringing the worst out of each other) but this one worked on me because at least there's enough empathy between the anger
love the november cameo!!
this is pretty okay. doesn't have the same allure as the ones i've read in the until series. but good enough for me to finish. 1
“The Church in this great Catholic country of ours is the last great, unexamined mystery. And I think you know what happens when you don't let the sunlight into dark places, Father.”
this is so warm??? and loving??? and compassionate??
at first i thought i wouldn't like it because i've been feeling a bit too old for YA's (ewan q ba, i don't appreciate teen angst that much anymore) but there's so much love and empathy in this book that it bridged the gap that i'm struggling to get on with.
true nga na we all have these private wars within ourselves pero siguro if we're surrounded by love and understanding and soooo much patience, we'll get by eventually.
(this healed my inner teenager cguroh,,, keri niu yon)
