I'm taking a break from this series because the ending made me SO MAD, why the heck did inspecto beahvouir listen to the smarmy greasy franceoeur dude?? and leave gamache?? also, franceoeur giving him oxycotin illegally was CRAZY, I”m shocked that gamche hasn't tried harder to get this dude arrested. My heart is broken because Annie and Bheavorior were sooo cute.
as always, Louise Penny is a fantastic author I'm just so freaking mad at the ending that I think I need a break. i will return to this series next season.
*please ignore any spelling, i have no memory for characters names or spellings at all
I really wanted to like this but I couldn't get into it. I listened to the audio on Spotify and I think that format made it feel more drawn out and slow. It took so many chapters for Iseul to get her stuff together and start accomplishing stuff. Additionally, I'm all for character development in-novel - but Iseul's brattiness kept sticking around. Daehyun was a little inconsistent with his “i'm a terrible guy because i've been forced to do terrible things” vibe vs. being somewhat helpful for Iseul, I felt like his internal monologues didn't actually fit what he was doing. IDK, i think if I get a physical copy in the future I'll try again, because the kdrama vibes were top tier.
I am SO impressed with this book. I really loved when u think Athelas really is going to just become Camellia's next ‘master' or whatever and then BOOM actually he's helping her FREE HERSELF 4ever. Beautiful. Also appreciate that we still got a kiss lol
Oof. I remember LOVING this book in high school. Rereading it, I realized that 1. the male lead prince and his cousin the princess are ENGAGED, not just cousins, and 2., he's a cheater?? and Seraphina has literally no self respect? Also how did she fall for him so fast? nothing happens and all of the sudden she's 100% in? AND Kiggs has given NO sign that he likes her back but she still thinks it's appropriate to confess to him?
If this book were from the point of view of her uncle Orma i think it would be perfect. he was the funniest character. also Kigg's fiancee (Gisselda? Grisela?) was the best and i think the book should also be about her.
I'm just still caught up at the end when Kiggs is like “yes i love u. but also you know I'll probably still have to marry my cousin, right?” and Seraphina is like “of course.” ??? girl plz have some self respect. walk away. there's a billion guys in this world who would be better
This was fine. The last 25% wasn't super interesting and I skimmed, but overall it was a fun read since it starts in the 1100s and ends in the 1900s.
holy freaking crap THE ENDING
aoisdjf ads;
i had to just sit on the couch in silence
there were two pages left and i didn't think anything crazy couldl happen in two pages but i was WRONG
there were some excellent scenes between our two favorite detective partners but that last scene really took the cake and i cant believe there's not another book out yet for me to find out what happens next
im really dead
overall a great mystery novel, the cult was pretty scary but honestly easy to not get caught up in, i'll have to re-read again to figure out all the hints
dang
if sevro dies in the next book i am quitting. he is my #1 favorite character right now. this series has been absolutely amazing. i love it. the ending was terrifying
I'm a little torn on how to rate this - the book was great, I just started to lose interest in the second half. But the descriptions were so rich and good. Santángel was an interesting male lead and i loved his backstory. Luzia was a little bit boring of a female character but overall a good read.
did not like the frog even tho I knew he was the love interest.he was kinda weird. did not pass vibe check
mostly kept reading to see the evil cousin get his due by the end.
i started this some months ago but just couldn't get into it after how much i loved the agony of the first book. maybe i'll come back to this later.
DNF at 25 pages in, it reads more like a wattpad from 2015 than a book I'd be interested in. I'm sure it's great if someone is in the mood for a shallow, mildly entertaining read
liked this book when i was in middle/high school but i think it's too young for me now. dnf
Dnf at 33%.... The magic system was super interesting but Gideon and Rune felt flat, and I just couldn't get into the story
wow. i get it. i 100% get it.
i read this bc i saw one of the fanfic bookbinders i follow on instagram mentioned it and BOY am i glad. this was incredible. it might actually beat out Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love as the best fanfic read of the year. i have already printed out a typeset for my own paperback copy.
Basic premise: Draco gets sorted into Gryffindor instead of Slytherin. Hilarious and painful character growth ensues.
This fic stays very true to Draco's original character and his racist (blood purist? not sure the right word) beliefs/upbringing, but also realistically shows change as Draco realizes that maybe his family legacy isn't all that. the change does not happen overnight. it does not even happen in the first two books. which makes it all the more rewarding when he finally starts to relinquish the pureblood beliefs he's clung to. I also appreciated the effect of the anti-muggleborn sentiments are a serious threat throughout the entire series, greenTeacup does a great job of making you SO MAD where i feel like other fics gloss over the heftiness of the ingrained racism in wizarding society. Of course the romance is so fun when it finally picks up in year 4/5. 10/10. the story is still a WIP so i will be revisiting this in a year when year 5 is done.
this book might've been good but i'm just tired of male leads who have/had a mistress and then got rid of the mistress because their moms told them too. not because they changed or decided to be more honorable. it's not making for a great foundation of character or for a male lead's story that I'm actually interested in
I am 12% in and still haven't met Niccolo. i guess he hasn't quite risen yet. It's been an extremely literary text, meaning there's a lot of detail that should be engaging but is actually just confusing. not sure if I will try again later to find niccolo.
