This ended up being a DNF. Couldn't keep my interest, and gave up around chapter 7/8. I'm surprised because I was really interested in the synopsis, and this being a sapphic coming of age romance.
It's not the book it's me! I just can't get into it, but I'm so intrigued by the premise. Maybe another time.
The POV switching is a bit jarring and rough, and the flow of the story trying to be told is confusing. Overall not for me.
Oh... my god.
Talk about judging a book by its cover. This cover is GORGEOUS... the inside??? eehhhh.
The storytelling was just so surface level, and as someone who read A LOT of YA this was just really cringy? Yes, we're in the perspective of a high schooler, but the writing just feels so off.
If I don't have to see the word “Gooseberries” or the phrase “Gooseberries Galore” ever again, I think I will be set for life.
It's kinda hard to follow, and get into the story. If I have time later in the year, I'll come back to this.
This just isn't for me. The story keeps jumping all over the place. I understand it's a collection of interconnected stories of different Palestinian families but oh my god. The two stories I could get through don't have a true plot line and the ride along story with Marcus was where is knew I wasn't going to continue.
It's not the book it's me!
This book is very dark. VERY DARK. Please read all the content warnings, shoot, read the reviews before delving into this one.
I think up to the part I got to, the story is very complex and it required a deeper look into the characters, their relationships, and plot. There is nothing surface level about this piece of work.
All in all, I just couldn't handle the subject matter and found it triggering while reading and it only got worse when I switched to audio.
The author isn't explaining why characters are the way they are, or why things start off the way they do. The beginning of this was rough, but I decided to push forward because of natural curiosity. Now I've reached a point where I don't really care to piece any of this together or understand the “twist” 😭
Thank you LibroFM for the ALC.
What In the actual fuck is this???? She considered herself a good person because she had a BLM sticker on her damn laptop. * closes book*NEXTThank you Berkley Pub for the finished copy.
The story couldn't keep my interest/attention at all.
I restarted listening a few times to see if I could get into it, but just the overall experience of the story was just a bit boring and slow moving for me.
