The second instalment of Paul O Grday's autobiohraphy takes up where the first one left off with his father's death and the news that he is to become a father himself.
With his heart on his sleeve Paul takes us through his reactions to becoming a father, his move to London, his various jobs and he introduces us to some very interesting characters.
Laugh-out-loud funny and hugely entertaining.
This was a poorly written book, and not just because of the typos. Many items were repeated over and over. I didn't finish it, a rarity for me.
This is a great collection of short-stories by Peter James. Does exactl ywhat it says on the tin. They're short and have the power to shock
This collection of short stories was, for me, a great introduction to authors I had not read before, Ann Cleves, Val McDermid and Steve Moseby. Also featured are two of my favorite authors, Mark Billingham and Harlan Coben. There are only six stories in the collection but they are very well written. A very enjoyable hour of reading.
I liked this book. It had a good story-line, red herrings aplenty and likable characters. Nessar allowed the tension to build slowly and took the time to flesh out the main characters. Well worth a read.
“The House in Wales” is a very dark novel. Set during World War 2 it centers around the evacuation of young people to Wales, and one youth in particular. It is a tale of devil worship and sacrifice. It is disturbing in places. Definitely not for the faint-hearted.
This is another great collection of short stories by Billy Wells. I would recommend it to anyone who likes scary stories with a twist at the end.
I loved this book. “Cockroaches” is the second early novel in the Harry Hole series. In this book Harry is sent to Bangkok to investigate the murder of the Norwegian Ambassador. The powers that be in Oslo try to hamper his investigation but Harry is not one to bow to authority and does things his way. He may be an alcoholic but Harry is a good detective and puts his life at risk to get his man.
I didn't enjoy this book. The stories were so depressing and gloomy I confess I gave up on it midway. Nothing to sing and dance about.
David Essex was one of my idols in my pre-teens/teens. What young girl could resist that cheeky chappy smile, those twinkling eyes? Many years later I couldn't resist his autobiography. This isn't a kiss and tell book. This is an honest, heartwarming, witty account of David's youth, his long road to stardom, and the people who matter to him the most, his family. This is a must read for all David Essex fans.
Some interesting Urban legends here, along with the history of their origins. The book is too short though, which was disappointing.
This is a spooky tale of centuries old evil stalking a small American town. The spirit of a woman slaughtered by the town's first settlers, is awakened by a young girl and immediately sets out to destroy the town and it's people. A gripping read that will have you looking over your shoulder upon hearing an unexpected noise.
I liked this little atmospheric Christmas short read from Peter James. It was an enjoyable read, but sadly, too short. I wanted more. Glad to see Peter hasn't totally abandoned the supernatural though.
This is a wonderfully eerie book. It has it all; a centuries old murder and wrongful hanging, a family curse, family secrets and a haunting. It is a fast paced, tense tale, a very enjoyable read.
I really liked this book. It was fast paced and the tension mounted page by page. I couldn't put it down.
This is a great collection of short crime fiction. There are many authors included whose longer works I have not yet read, many more I had never heard of before, and of course my two favourites, John Connolly and Mark Billingham also contributed. A great read, compiled for a great cause.
I couldn't really get into this book. An interesting concept but it didn't grip in the same way other books by this author have done.
The numerous typos in the kindle edition made reading difficult as I had to continously backtrack to get the gist of what I was reading. Very disappointing.
At last! Yet another great compilation of short-stories by the uber-talented Allan Watson. “Mezzanine and Other Curiously Dark Tales” has it all. Ghosts, Zombies, a demonically possessed train, even an inflatable crocodile. Er.....anyway, it also boasts a fabulous cover by the very talented Caitlin Sagan. It was a cracking great read and I had it finished in one sitting. Bliss!
I loved this kindle single which I read in one sitting.
A haunting tale, vaguely reminiscent of the works of Susan Hill. My only complaint....it was too short.
I really enjoyed this book. Set in a psychiatric hospital it is the story of Martin, a once aspiring journalist who, following recuperation after an accident, begins work at the hospital as a cleaner on the night-shift. On his first night he meets Jimmy, his supervisor, who regales him with the history of the hospital and takes him to meet 12 of the patients, each withe their own terrifying tale to tell. Beware the sti ng in the tail though.
I enjoyed this book. Very good premise and a nice little twist at the end.
If you like your tales gory, this is j must read.
Beware, however, the kindle edition. Mine has numerous typos which made reading difficult at times.
This book was a brilliant, creepy collection of stories. Packed with ghosts, ghouls and sinister people who get their just desserts. It had me looking over my shoulder at times. Billy Wells wants to have as many published books as Stephen King. If he delivers books as good as this one I think he will realise his dream.
Really enjoyed this book. It had a good mix of local superstition and Satanic rituals. The setting, in rural Cornwall, added athmosphere to the tale.
I enjoyed this immensely. Bigfoot is on the loose....or is he. What looks to be a crime scene turns out to be a spoof to attract tourists to a town fallen on hard times. However, there is an unexpected twist at the end.
“Twist and Scream” volume one is a collection of short horror fiction. With eight stories in total it is a good quick read, very enjoyable.
