Erg bijzonder boek...ik heb talloze keren kippenvel gehad.
De wisseling van het logboek van Peter en het dagboek van Royce, geeft een diep inzicht in de zaak zelf maar ook in het persoonlijke leven van Peter en wie hij is als persoon. En is daarom een bijzondere en waardevolle combinatie. Het boek geeft verder ook een scherpe ‘analyse' in veiligheid, hoe belangrijk en kwetsbaar zij is voor de Nederlandse rechtsstaat, en hoe de Nederlandse rechtsstaat er toch in faalt om deze veiligheid te waarborgen. Dit boek is daarom, zoals Royce in het eind aangeeft, geen compliment voor de rechtsstaat. Maar ik denk wel dat dit boek een rol speelt als belangrijke reminder.
Ik heb enorm veel respect voor Royce; zo'n boek publiceren is moeilijk, confronterend, maar ook erg krachtig en dapper.
Really starting 2024 on a good note when it comes to books lol.
As I expected; I giggled and smiled whilst reading this book. She never fails to make me laugh. It is a very honest, sharp and contemporary memoir. Backed up by amazing writers and thinkers like Du Bois. The fact that Ziwe was able to explain double consciousness in such a ‘simple' way, is impressive, and makes me appreciate this book so much more.
Though, it is ‘sold' as a collection of essays, I think it is more of a memoir that is written in essay-like chapters. Really really liked it.
Okay I don't hate it but I also don't love it.
I think there is a hidden message in here about why people do the things they do; what drives them; what urges do we want to satisfy; do we do what is right and wrong?
All written and hidden in a, kind of, sweet story.
However I think there is way more potential in this specific piece of work from Kawakami. You can tell the idea is there, but it's not explicit or entirely clear. As if Kawakami herself wasn't sure yet how to fully capture it either.
