When Garon gets the news he's about to be transferred to a new assignment, his entire world comes crashing down around him, for as a guardian angel, a new charge can only mean one thing.
His Jessie, the girl he's watched over from the moment of her birth, the human he'd been created to protect, is about to die.
Can he stand by and let her be destroyed? Or will he dare to do the unthinkable.
Dare to fall.

Jessica Martin doesn't believe in happily ever after. Prince Charming is just a lie bought by starry-eyed women, and she's far from that anymore.
No man has ever measured up to the one who lives in her imagination. With no real family, just temporary ones that came and went, she's had few constants in her life, but the make-believe friend from her childhood has always been there for her. Always.
Too bad George isn't real.
So when a mysterious man rescues her from danger, she can't help but be suspicious. Her Good Samaritan is blond-haired, blue-eyed, and drop dead gorgeous, the complete embodiment of her perfect man, but he's more than what he seems. The strange familiarity in his eyes, his touch...it shouldn't be there.
What is he hiding?
If you've never read this amazing and highly entertaining book, what are you waiting for? 5 action-packed STARS! I'd give it 10 stars if I could, as it's a wonderful tale that's even better than the beloved movie, although I'm pleased to say the movie definitely does the book justice. I love them both. Both are high quality entertainment, and if I had to choose between only experiencing one or the other, I'd find that decision awfully HARD!
I read this to my three young daughters, and they were just as engrossed in the story as I was. I may have skimmed over the torturing of Westley JUST a bit, but in my defense, my youngest is only five. ;-)
So don't delay, read this delightful book today! To pass up a story this awesome would be utterly inconceivable! My advice? Drop what you're doing and immediately begin reading “The Princess Bride”!
Fan-FUCKING-tastic! That's all there is to say. If you like hot and smutty, this is the hottest and smuttiest of them all. Plus older man/younger woman = out of the ballpark for me. The bdsm element is very well written...the author claims to be a submissive herself and after reading this, I believe it 100%. She really knows her shit.
From her blog I ascertained she plans to publish this as original fiction, and I applaud her decision wholeheartedly. I can't wait to support her future endeavors as I hope she writes many more!
Read it. Trust me.
The heartbreaking story of the Choctaws in Mississippi and of the men who attempted to “civilize” and “Christianize” them. A very detailed and informative account of the religious and political climate of the Choctaw Nation in the years leading up to their removal. It's a story that echoes that of countless other American Indian nations...of a people who have their culture, traditions and beliefs slowly and systematically stripped from them in the name of progress and religion.
The culprits? White missionaries, the U.S. government, and even some of their own leaders, as in the final years prior to removal the Choctaw Nation was on the verge of civil war, their loyalties firmly divided between the full blooded chiefs who held to the old ways and the half white, much younger leaders who for their own political gain asserted themselves into positions of power.
Tessa Dare has officially taken the top spot as my favorite author! I loved every single book in the Spindle Cove series and “Any Duchess Will Do” was no exception! This was truly a fairytale romance, but with a heavy dose of humor and heart. (And the sex scenes were HAWT! I'll role play with you anytime, Griff, haha! ;))
I'm sorry to be saying goodbye to Spindle Cove and to these amazing characters.
Whew! I was fanning myself with this one, LOL! I started Addicted to You while on the plane ride home from Nashville, and let me tell ya, I think I turned beet red reading this with strangers sitting inches away, lmao!
I'm a historical girl, but I enjoy contemporary if it's in the form of erotic romance. A bit of a tortured hero thing going on, as Rill can't forgive himself for past mistakes. Also a bit of the forbidden, as Katie is the little sister of his best friend.(and therefore off-limits)
It worked. Well. I was captivated from start to finish!
I've said it many times, but my favorite trope is the older man introducing the innocent young girl to the ways of the flesh. Really revs my engine, if you know what I mean. ;-) Needless to say, I loved this book!
Our hero is 52 and the 19 year old heroine's godfather. I love me some forbidden love, now!
There was one F/F/M scene that I was not expecting, though, which sort of threw me off a bit. I'm all for people loving who they love...I just personally don't find that arousing, so I was ready for it to be over, haha.
The story as a whole did feel a bit rushed, but it's a novella, so that's to be expected. It was great for what it was! Can't wait to read the rest of this series.
Lucy is a fiesty heroine if ever there was one, and it was a true delight watching her attempts to get under the Hero Jeremy's skin. She did a damn good job of it too, in more ways than one. The poor man was tortured by the flesh-and-blood Lucy during the day and by lustful dreams of her at night. The warbdrobe scene...oh my god. HOT.
Wow, did this one ever surprise me! It had several things going for it that would normally make me shy away.
First off, most of you know by now that I hate 1st person POV. Can't. Stand. It. But in this case, it worked! The heroine was hilarious...that probably helped. And so DIRTY. This is no shy virginal miss. Which leads me to my next point.
I like my men in control. Love a dirty talkin' bad boy, especially when he's seducing a sweet young virgin. So when I discovered the hero was the virgin in this story, I wasn't so sure it would be for me. Boy, was I ever wrong!
I enjoyed watching the lusty Ms. Morris pull out all the stops to corrupt the shy, yet eager Gabe.
Speaking of Gabe, when I saw this pic, I knew this was my Gabriel.
Absolutely delicious, yes? ;-)
Oh, and there's a second man in the picture as well. The tattooed, take charge Andy. Seems I got my bad boy after all. ;-D
This is smut at its finest, my friends. Witty, engaging prose mixed with HOT HOT action that doesn't disappoint.
Reread March 2015...5 stars, just like the first time! Now to read the rest of the series!
I love westerns, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman is one of my favorite TV shows, and this story is a lot like Dr. Quinn...if it were set today instead of in the 1870's, if there had been no Sully, and if Cloud Dancing had been younger and hotter and unmarried, lol.
The lovely Duchess Nicole had this picture on her review of this same book and once I saw it, I couldn't get it out of my mind. This is Rebel:
WHEW! fans self
I loved Rebel from the start. Although the name suggests he might be a bit of a bad boy, he wasn't that. But he WAS a man who valued faith and family. He cared a great deal for his people, and I respected and grew to like him because of it. Rebel is much more than a pretty face (and body!) He's also a Medicine Man, and carries on the traditions taught to him by his grandfather. I loved that aspect of the story. And there was one scene with the grandfather where I teared up. Sniff sniff.
As for the heroine Madeline...
I loved her stubborn, fiery nature and her wild, unruly curls. She was instantly attracted to Rebel, but fought against it, as she had come to the White Sandy reservation with one purpose, and one purpose only: to serve as their resident doctor for the next two years. Needless to say...fate had other plans. ;-)
With Madeline practicing the white man's medicine and Rebel practicing the Lakota way as a Medicine Man, there were a few times they clashed, but that just made it all the more interesting. But this couple soon realizes they're on the same side, and learn to work together, and that, ladies and gentleman, is when the sparks flew.
The scene in the river was my absolute favorite. So romantic, yet super sensual and very, very hot.
“The spring rains, that was what she smelled like. The spring rains soaking into the earth, washing away the grit of a winter spent asleep. Every second with her was like waking up all over again. And he hadn't even realized he'd been asleep.”
The loves scenes were nice. A little on the mild side, but this isn't erotica. ;-)
Can't wait to read the rest of this series! Especially book 3, which is supposedly about another character we met in the book...a mysterious man by the name of Nobody.
I feel like my heart has just been put through the wringer. Wow.
There are two versions of Redeeming Love: the original 1991 version, and the 1997 version that was sanitized to remove the coarse language and (very) mild love scenes to make it fit for the Inspirational market. I bought the original 1991 version, but even with it being the original, the story still has a strong religious bent, and the love scenes are not explicit but more implied.
To be honest, I put off reading this for a very long time, thinking I wouldn't enjoy it as I don't normally read Inspirational. You have only to browse my bookshelves to know I prefer books with a bit more...spice. ;-) But after reading a friend's review, and learning about the 1991 version, I became interested enough to click buy. I have to say, I'm so glad I took a chance on this one! It's such a beautiful, angst-filled, heart-wrenching love story, and I know it will stay in my memory for a very long time.
Angel has known nothing but a life of pain from the day she was born. At a very young age, she was sold into prostitution, and from that point on, lives through unspeakable horrors, at times barely surviving and often asking herself why. “Why was I even born?” is a question that often goes through her mind, and after reading about the unspeakable things and situations she's forced into time and time again, I honestly couldn't blame her.
Enter Michael Hosea.
From the moment Michael sees the beautiful golden-haired angel walking by, he knows she's the one. The one that would be his wife. How is he so certain? God tells him so.
Michael is a man of faith, and his faith is what carries him through during the duration of this story and his heartbreaking relationship with Angel. And it's his faith and steadfastness through betrayal after betrayal and hurt after hurt that finally shows Angel that he's unlike all of the other men she's known before him. He doesn't want to use her, hurt her, or take advantage of her...he only wants to love her, and have her love him back.
Having never known the true love of any man, it takes Angel a very long time to believe Michael's love is real, and even longer for her to feel she's worthy of it.
Redeeming Love is a deeply emotional roller coaster. Just when you think it can't get any worse...it does. Be prepared for some hard-core angst. Be prepared to cry. But in the end, my tears of pain turned to tears of joy as Michael and Angel walked through fire and came out strong on the other side.
ETA: I realize now that the reason the age thing struck me as so “off” is because I quite often read May/December romances, where the heroine is much, MUCH younger than the hero in a Historical setting. That sort of pairing seems quite common back then, so it was a bit startling to have so much emphasis put on a mere four years, lol. It appears we have a double standard. (what else is new?!) Anyway, I'll admit I don't often read about the woman being older, as I prefer the opposite, so I will defer to the author here. ;-D
Historical Erotic Romance is my favorite genre, so I was excited to start this one. I had read Ask For It by the same author, which is SUPER hot, so I expected this to be the same.
Have to say, I was a tiny bit disappointed. Yes, there is sex and it's quite explicit, there just wasn't as much of it as I'd expected. Perhaps the scenes there were just weren't long enough. Yeah, that could be it. I like me some long drawn-out lovin', now. ;-D And again, I did go into it with a certain mindset having already read Ask For It.
That aside, there was one minor annoyance that drove me a bit crazy. Throughout the book, there is constant mention of how Isabel is older than Gray. At one point she is shocked by her strong reaction to him physically, thinking herself past the point of such desire...there's several mentions of her possibly being too old to bear children...
Isabel is FOUR years older than Grayson. FOUR. For the majority of the book, he's 26 and she's 30. Sorry, but I thought that such a minor age difference as not to merit all the brouhaha. I know women got married really young back then, and in fact, if you weren't married by your early twenties you were considered an old maid. I get that. I guess I still think there should've been a slightly larger age gap between them for the big fuss. Like 7-10 years. That would have made it more believable, imo.
Isabel and Grayson were both very likable characters, and I did enjoy the rocky path they took from strangers to lovers, and finally to true companions who were desperately in love. They both had their reasons for keeping their distance at first, so it takes them awhile to get there. (Otherwise, there'd be no book, right?) ;-)
There was a side story with Isabel's brother Rhys and a charming girl named Abby that I REALLY loved. I adored this couple so much I wish they could've had their own story!
To sum it up, I enjoyed this book, but it's not one of my absolute favorites. Definitely worth a read, though!
What a beautiful love story. I have a special place in my heart for Heroes that have been tortured and abused, and Nicholas was certainly that. It was wonderful to watch as, through his growing love for Bethie, he was able to put his past behind him and have a bright and beautiful future. He did the same for her, as she had a difficult past as well. They healed each other.
Nicholas was a fabulous hero. I usually like the bad boys, but he was so kind, so amazing, so patient and yet he never bored me.
Since this is in the synopsis I can mention how his helping Bethie with the birth of her daughter, and essentially saving both of their lives...WOW! I was in awe of him at that point.
I love how Ms. Clare painted a very realistic picture of the time, and I especially enjoyed her Author's Note at the end, where she describes some of her research and how it applies to this story. As a detailed researcher myself, I appreciate when an author takes the time and effort to get the historical time and place of his or her book right. Pamela Clare certainly did that, with fantastic results.
The steam/sexual tension in Ride the Fire is slow building, but it makes sense once you learn certain things about Bethie's past. The lovemaking when it did finally happen, was definitely worth the wait. Not quite as hot as I normally like, but satisfying nonetheless.
Amazing story, and a fitting end to the Blakewell/Kenleigh Family trilogy!
Updated review with a re-read)
I started this book looking for something HOT, and it definitely delivers.
The sex scenes are VERY sensual and deliciously explicit, just how I like ‘em. ;-) There is M/F/M but also M/M. I love the dynamic of the relationship between the three main characters. Anje (F) dominates Trey (M), while Brin (M) dominates Anje, or Trey, or BOTH.
The alternate world the author has created is a bit over the top but it works. Lots of mention of pleasure slaves, and when you have an orgasm, it's an offering to the goddess, etc.
An entertaining read that sizzles!
5+ AMAZING STARS!!!
Wow.
I am so twisted up inside, I don't know if I can even get the words out. This is seriously one of the best books I've ever read. Probably because it speaks so strongly to me on a personal level.
I, too, was sheltered. I'm not going to go into all the details because that's way too raw and personal for goodreads, (although this review already feels like it's headed in that direction), but let's just say I was sheltered to the extreme and leave it at that. ;-) So when I started reading about Evie, I couldn't believe just how close her story hit home. In case anyone has doubts about whether someone can really be raised THAT strictly, be THAT naive, let me assure you that yes, they can and yes, they are.
Needless to say, I devoured this book. Evie struck a chord and it almost feels uncomfortable to admit it.
Ok, enough about Evie. Now I must say a few words about VAN. Where do I even start? 6'5” at least, although that's just her guestimation, and at one point he eludes to the fact that he may be much taller than that. Panting He's broad-shouldered and big...ALL over. Ahem. He's covered in tattoos in delectable places that Evie wants to lick, like his neck (I'm with ya, girl!) He rides a motorbike. He's got a partially shaved head. He's bad to the bone on the OUTSIDE, and the best kind of good and sweet on the inside. The perfect combination. They never say how old he is, but I figure a few years older than her as he talks about attending college (she's 19). I usually go for the May/December, older man/younger woman kind of thing, but this just WORKED. They were so meant to be. Every word, every single moment just felt so RIGHT.
And the SEX. Holy freakin' SH*T. She was so innocent, and yet SO ready to explore, to take the bull by the horns (or the balls?) and dive head first into the uncharted waters of passion, and he was so sweet at first, keeping his distance, but when he finally gave in and let go...O.M.G. The mouth on that boy. There were several times I thought I might seriously pass out. Expire from lack of blood to my brain because it had all headed decidedly south.
And so much emotion. Even in such a short story, I really FELT their connection. I believed in their love.
A perfect story, and one I wished had been MUCH, much longer. AMAZING!!
5+ stars!
AMAZING story, even better than the first in this duet.
I loved that Nic was instantly attracted to Merry, and saw her unique beauty, despite her not being what was “normally” considered pretty. He loved things she hated about herself, such as her hair. His constant building her up and getting on to her when she would tear down her looks endeared him to me and I really respected him for that.
The sexual tension was off the charts...these two have an immediate connection that only intensifies as their feelings for one another grow.
Emma Holly has a way with words, and when it came to the sex scenes she did not disappoint. Hot, erotic perfection.
Top it off with a feel good happy ending, and you have the perfect book, and a love story I'll remember with fondness.
*Note: Merry has a small role in Book 1, Beyond Innocence. While reading Book 1 first will give you a bit of insight on the character of Merry, it's not essential. Helpful, certainly, but not a MUST read in order to enjoy this story.
5+ stars!!!!
Brad Swanson is a whiskey drinkin', card playin', cheroot smokin', dirty talkin'...PREACHER. Yep. You heard right.
I have a penchant for bad boys, and let me tell you, there's nothing more wicked than a preacher who isn't all that he seems. ;-) Brad is hiding something, Evie is sure of it, and she's fascinated with the man. She secretly studies him, and that fascination culminates in her painting his portrait–in the NUDE. What's most humorous about the situation is the fact that Brad is not so much upset that she painted him, but that she painted him rather UN-flatteringly, lol. The conversation where they discuss her model for a certain part of his anatomy was quite hilarious. LOL!
A shotgun wedding ensues, and Evie and Brad are thrown together in a bit of a whirlwind romance. I loved that they had both secretly noticed each other and that there was a mutual attraction there that had been simmering under the surface for quite awhile. Their being forced into marriage was the best thing that could have happened to them both.
Evie is determined to show him she won't be mowed over, while Brad is just as determined to show his new bride who's boss. (In lots of deliciously wicked ways!) Their flirty banter is fun and engaging, and their chemistry is HOT.
I've read other reviews where people said this book isn't as hot as the first 3. I have to respectfully disagree. The scene in the church that I quoted from at the beginning of this review? HOLY HELL. And I think that sentiment is quite appropriate considering we're talking about a preacher, here. ;-D That one scene makes the book. Don't get me wrong, the rest is awesome as well, but I just really, REALLY enjoyed the hot, possessive, somewhat exhibitionist sex in the church. LOL.
For those who've read the first 3 books, you'll enjoy several scenes with old friends. If you haven't read the others, you might be slightly confused on who certain people are, but I felt Ms. McCarty introduced everyone fairly well to ensure that all enjoy the book, even a newcomer to the series.
Speaking of former characters, I loved Gray's interaction with little Brenna. Made me wish Ms. McCarty would do a book for the two of them where they're all grown up and in love despite the obstacles that he being Indian and her being white throw their way. I do see a 5th book is being written, and I'm highly curious to know why it hasn't been published yet. I sincerely hope Ms. McCarty will continue this series.
Back to Brad and Evie...I do believe I loved this story every bit as much as book 1, (which was my favorite thus far), if not even a bit more! Brad was just a fascinating picture of contradiction, and as we soon discover, Evie was right about him. He IS more than just a preacher. If I'm a sucker for a bad boy, I'm an even BIGGER sucker for a bad boy with a tortured past. ;-D
Highly recommend Brad and Evie's story. Funny and hot, with a beautiful love story and an engaging plot.
The theme of “older, experienced man schools the innocent young virgin in the ways of the flesh” is a favorite indulgence of mine. No matter how many times I read this particular trope, it never gets old.
What made this story different was that this virgin, while inexperienced, is anything but naive about what goes on between a man and a woman, thanks to her wicked next door neighbor and his exhibitionist ways. So when Miranda Albright's family is in need of a benefactor, she boldly propositions the man who's been the embodiment of her fantasies for years.
I truly loved Miranda. She was gutsy, and not afraid to go after what she wanted, namely Ethan, the Earl of Rothschild, the man she's been secretly lusting after from afar. The bargain they strike is only temporary, but Miranda is dying to experience passion in Ethan's arms, however fleeting. She willingly gives him her virginity, never realizing that she would also end up losing her heart.
Ethan is a man used to controlling his desires. Normally cool and dispassionate even while indulging in the pleasures of a woman's body, he found that control quickly thrown out the window every single time he encountered Miranda. For Ethan, women had always been interchangeable, so when he finds himself wanting her, and not just the pleasure they experience together, needless to say, he's a bit terrified.
He didn't want this need to be with her more than any other woman. He didn't want this...this strange caring about her welfare. And today he would regain control over his emotions and her body.
And so, he fights against his feelings and tries (unsuccessfully) to keep her at a healthy distance.
The sex scenes were very good, extremely sensual and tastefully done. Ethan had foreplay down to an art form. I loved that he had a bit of a dirty mouth and how he seduced Miranda slowly, building up her excitement (and mine!)
The ending was sigh-worthy, although I do wish we could've got a glimpse of their lives together as a happy couple. I guess I will need to read Penelope's story for that.
