These could be books set in a fictional universe, books with magic elements, or anything else that plays with magical realism to tell a compelling tale that school-aged readers can identify with.

Why this book?

A bit of a different take from traditional fantasy books told from the first-person narrative. Wonderful character development and solid clean humor. Toward the 4th/5th books, there is a bit more adult language, but only in a couple of places, and nothing teens haven't heard before. The audiobook version of this is exceptional as well with amazing voice acting by the reader Heath Miller.
