Looong but entertaining. Cliched, of course. It did rather feel like reading an entire season of Eastenders- so many plot lines!
Despite the fact that Joan Aiken is my favorite children's author of all time, this book was not for me. I think I'm just of the wrong era to appreciate this romp - instead of finding it nostalgic and campy (which I understand it was rather meant to be), I thought it was dated and honestly rather offensive in its stereotypes. That being said, I was invested in the story and anxiously sped towards the resolution. I have a few more of her out of print novels I purchased used that I will still read, but this one was disappointing.
A delight on audio, read by Neil Dudgeon. Simple, cozy, fun. I'll probably be working my way through this series of shorter novels quickly.
Super short and fun little audiobook, recommended for fans of the Brenda and Effie series.
This is definitely my favorite book of all time. I have read it every year since I was ten. Love, love, love. Not a one off read however, it is crucial to have read the others in the series prior to this. Betsy Ray might be the love of my life...
What an incredibly well written tale of magic. Deftly plotted and some of the best world building I've ever seen. I hope we see more of this world in a future book - and last but not least...Hutchincraft ❤️
One of the very best books I have ever read - stunningly gorgeous prose, a tight plot and impeccable characterization. Wow, wow, wow. Read this book!!
This book is so incredibly disappointing. I thought I was getting a paleo cookbook, and instead I got a book with probably 75 percent of its recipes using at least one form of dairy, if not more. Marscapone, blue cheese, cream cheese, cheddar, feta, butter and heavy cream - seriously? And baked goods using xanthan gum...I'm sorry, that's not paleo. I understand there is no one size fits all approach to this diet, and some people can tolerate dairy, but this is over the top. Call it gluten free, not paleo. Sad to say this is going to be returned.
