This was fine for a quick (somewhat predictable) thrill, but I much preferred The Winter People.
Rebecca Stead is high on my list of must read writers, and yet this one didn't have the same magic for me as her others. Even though it's been years since I read When You Reach Me, I think about it often as it left me with much to contemplate and a heart full to bursting. It might be the subject matter of this one, which left me a little queasy in parts and rather terrified to have kids of my own (TEENAGERS ARE MEAN), but I just didn't connect with Goodbye Stranger the way I hoped to. I'll still seek out her future books, though, because despite this slight miss she remains a unique and talented voice in the world of Middle Grade fiction.
A fantastic start to the series! There are definitely shades of Lady Julia and Brisbane to these two, but I'm not yet tired of the formula, in fact I am constantly wanting more. I can't wait to see what happens next!
I absolutely adored this book. It would have benefitted from a bit more editing, but despite that I enjoyed it immensely. This coming from someone who woke up at 2:30 am to live stream the wedding of Will and Kate though, so take that for what it's worth.
Really, really awful. Offensive, idiotic, unrealistic and boring. The worst book I've read in ages.
I love Lee Scorsby. I love Iorek Byrnison. But most of all, I love Hester. I want ten million more stories about the three of them.
Yeah, no. This one really didn't do it for me. I do not understand the hype...I forced myself to finish this, and at times it was in fact rather painful. So boring.
2.5. I was so disappointed with this one. Deanna Raybourn is one of my favorite authors but this fell so short for me. I look forward to the second installment in the Veronica Speedwell series, and hope it brings back some of that magic so prevalent in the Lady Julia series.
Audiobook narrated by the author that took me all across Montana and back. Loved it, laughed a ton.
A game changer- this is the book I have been waiting for! I can't wait to make every single recipe.
